Sewing machine...likely story....

Still waiting on the elevator story...my next thought was, "As long as you can break wind...you're okay!"

Oops...did I say that?...must have been da Queen posting under my name...or my cat...I'm sure I wouldn't say that!!! LOL

Hey where is the Queen anyway? Haven't seen her around for several days now. Oh my, you don't suppose she was cooling her feet in that darn moat again. Alligators like sushi too.

Yeah, I've noticed that too! She's probably being chauffered around the country in her limosene for autograph sessions....if the alligators let her through.

It depends how the guy was raised and his personality. My partner is naturally a neat person, will do chores as part of breathing and does clean much better than I. He is nearing 64. The near start of boomer men. I think it's because after his birth father died in WW II, he became close to his mother. Enjoyed watching his mother bake, he became very paranoid of germs as a child. As a young child he had tuberculosis, meningistis, nearly died of ringworm. Germany after it was bombed out, or any bombed out country lacks good public sanitation at that time. So hence, his clean household tendencies. He also has allergies, another motivator to keep home clean.

My father who is 77, immigrated from China and of course, for first 25 years of his marriage, it was quite traditional. Mother did most of childcare, housework, while he did the more manly stuff and was sole breadwinner for family of 6 children and wife. But now in his retirement, he shares household chores with mother. He also cooks, but then he was a restaurant cook for his whole life. He is an even tempered man....I believe his personality which is more diplomatic, helping,...made it easier for him to change.

Orchid, welcome my friend. We're so happy you've joined us! And thanks for your input...or insight, I should say. I totally agree with you about "how they were raised." My Daddy was #9 with 8 sisters. So he was spoiled rotten. Mom, on the other hand, was also raised in a large family, but the "girls" did the housework and cooking, while the guys made a living. So when Mom and Dad married, the roles were preset. I doubt they ever looked outside the circle of what they were taught.

Limo? Me? mahahah...ahem..cough...spurt...gag....Uh huh, that's what I've been doing all right. What chew girls smokin'?

Orchid, it's great to see you jump in with such an intersting post. Welcome to the neighborhood.

My mom was raised by a stay-at-home mom and so was my dad. Both had fathers who brought home the bacon. As a result, they followed suit when they married. I was raised with that same tradition and so was my husband. We followed suit while raising our children but I don't know that our children will be able to do the same. It will be intersting to watch.

Okay, here's the short version of the elevator story. November 2004 a coworker and I got in the elevator next door to our building on the way to a meeting. We got in on the 1st floor, I pushed the button for 3rd floor (so it must have been my fault). It went up and slammed to a stop, we hit the walls, it fell, we hit the walls again and then it went up to the 3rd floor, opened the doors and we ran out for our lives. Nothing broken and no blood, but had injury in my lower back and right hip muscle from concussion (it was that sudden stop you know). Lost several months from work off and on, physical therapy, company insists elevators don't fall, it didn't happen while I was at work - only on way to work meeting - so not worker's comp. Still being treated for pain and muscle cramps, tough legal suit because I have terrible spine anyway and it's a soft tissue injury. May 2006 I was trapped in same elevator with another coworker (they just don't want to travel with me anymore) for 1/2 hour (another trauma and body tensed up so much from fear I hurt more). He got us out and elevator guy showed up 1/2 hour later. Elevator people still don't believe we were trapped. Left work early today because I was hurting. Hurt off and on all the time, blah, blah, blah...and the beat goes on.

I take the stairs now even if it hurts and don't go in the elevator unless I have a witness with me, just in case!

Saundra, that's too spooky. I'd take the stairs, too. Sorry for all the pain you're in.

Maybe the elevator people (and management) DO know the elevator has problems, but they're afraid to admit it for fear of a lawsuit.
