I use a wonderful moisturizer called Kinerase. It keeps my skin soft and doesn't make it oily. I love it.

You might recall that I once posted a request for help for my face...it was (and had been for many years) red, blotchy, itchy (to the point of oozing at times) and unsightly - so bad that it often kept me from going out. I had tried many prescription and OTC products over the years, including some recommended here. But what worked for me was a product that my brother picked up for me at a kiosk in the shopping center last Easter weekend. It's called "Proactiv", and after just a week of using this, my face completely cleared up. It's expensive (I order it from the shopping channel to get the best price), but my face is doing so well now that I can use the Proactiv just at nights and a different (cheaper) product (Body Shop's Aloe) during the day. Needless to say, I'm delighted at the results.

Clean & Clear exfoliating daily wash in the mornings, Clean & Clear facial wipes and Nivea Q10 at night.
Has anyone ever heard of Derma Wand?

Chatty, you suggested I try olive oil in the thread about my face way-back-when, and out of all of the recommendations, the olive oil worked the best. When my face wasn't oozing, the olive oil was very soothing and my skin was luxuriously soft. Now that my face is so clear now and the winter dryness is setting in, I may add the olive oil to my regime for extra moisturizing.

I agree with Eagle, I don't need this product myself but when I saw it advertised on TV, I sent for some and gave it to my Grandson Jared who is 22 years old. The product is Pro-Active and his terrible scared/marred skin from years of acne is now, almost clear. This stuff is really worth every penny you pay for it and it does wonders for older skin as well. I would try it Anno before going through all that other stuff...If you haven't seen it on TV simply google, www.ProActive.com and it should pop right up.

I have used olive oil for several years now. I ran out of moisutrizer one day and had been using it on my cuticles...I love it and have never bought another moisturizer!
I'm really making an effort to drink more water now because I know it helps hydrate the skin as well.

I use a clinique moisturizer (that yellow bottle...forgot the name) but I really could use something to lift the lines under my eyes. I always had to use a cover-up under my eyes since I was 22 years old due to those "allergy shiners" as my doctor said. You know, the dark circles! But now, they are downright wrinkles and sometimes puffy. I hate being so vein, but I guess I am!

In addition to skin care, I use Bare Escentuals brush-on make-up instead of liquid make-up. I never liked liquid make-up anyway but as I got older, my skin colorin has become more uneven. The Bare Escentuals goes on light, you can't feel it at all, and it makes my skin look radiant. Not the cheapest make-up but a little lasts a long time.

I'm a big fan of Strivectin. It's really made a difference for me. My face is softer, smoother, and my skin is much clearer -- I used to have problems with occaisonal breakouts. Of course some of that might be aging......maybe my skin finally realizes I'm not a teenager anymore! I also like L'Oreal Plentitude Line Eraser Eye Pure Retinol for around my eyes.......I've really seen a change in the wrinkles and dark circles around my eyes and can feel the difference......much smoother! And I like Olay Rejenerist Daily Regenerating Serum. I usually use the Olay in the morning and the Strivectin at night. I don't wear makeup all that often, but I've never been a big fan of liquid makeup either. Several of my friends use Bare Escentuals and they love it, but I could just never seem to justify the expense since I don't wear makeup all that often....all though I have thought about it because it sure makes them look great! Has anyone tried any of the Vital Radiance line of make-up.......created for women over 50? One of their products I love is the eye make-up primer. You put a dab on your lids before applying eyeshadow and it helps the eye shadow go on smooth and stay put and last all day. It's really great! And I like the new line of mineral makeup from Neutrogena. Since I don't wear foundation, the powder bronzer (remember I'm a Florida gal and perpetually tan!) is all I need. Really like the light touch it gives. For my body I'm a Bath & Body Works fan. I love lots of their products.....their Need A Margarita scrub is great down here in the Florida heat. Their Aquatanica line is also wonderful......smells "beachy" to me. And their "In A Minute" hand scrub is terrific. I keep it by the sink and try to remember to use it at least once a day after doing dishes or something. Smells wonderful and makes your hands nice and soft without leaving them slippery. Had to visit a podiatrist the other day for a problem with a toe. He told me to buy Aquaphor Ointment (it's made by Eucerin) -- I've been applying it to my cuticles and it's working better than all the cuticle stuff that I've tried over the years!! It's even helping with my exzema!! Ann

I try to stick one brand at a time, right now I'm using L'Oreal age perfect line.
Over the past few years, I have noticed a rapid decline in my skin. For many years, I was using synthetic HRT and my skin was great. I vividly remember my doctor telling me that I would see a big change - as she was also telling me that I could no longer take my beloved HRT. She wasn't kidding either. Although I am now using bioidentical HRT - my facial skin has (seemingly overnight for Pete's sake) dried up, wrinkled and sagged.....
I've been rereading my bible 'The Wisdom of Menopause" by Dr. Christiane Northrup - and think I will try a few of her suggestions for post menopause skin care. She recommends: #1 - eating a healthy diet and drinking WATER..., #2 - Fiber, #3 - Fish (Omega-3 Fats), #4 - Soy (supposedely rebuilds collagen) #5 - Supplements (Coenzyme Q10, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Proanthocyas (?), and Alpha-Lipoic acid) Daily cleansing, toning and exfoliating and Sunscreen are a must.
Of course, stress is probably responsible for a lot of the decline - and did I mention that Stress is my middle name?? I think I'll talk to the doctor about retin A for the deep wrinkles around my eyes and upper lip - those really bother me the most.
I have to say that, as I progress through this aging maze, I see my mother's face in the mirror looking back at me. Now that she's gone - in some way, I feel her presence more than ever. That resemblence used to bug me - not that she wasn't beautiful - I just wanted to look like ME. That reminds me, I have a tear jerker poem to post soon about My Mother - Myself - I sob everytime I read it.

Hi, Anno: You might want to find out more from Crosstitch as I think she posted something on Strivectin. I cannot backtrack to refresh on the post as I'll lose this post.

Very interesting how we are all using relatively inexpensive and obscure products, no one has mentioned the big expensive brands like Estée Lauder, Elizabeth Arden etc

Yes it was me that posted about Strivectin and yes it's expensive (about $135 I think) but the tube is HUGE and it lasts a long long time.....you only use a small dab at a time. One tube lasts me almost a year. One of the places that sells it is Ulta, and if you have one near you and sign up with them you can get coupons that you can use on anything in the store. including Strivectin. Or they sell it in some of the department stores like Belk's, maybe at Macy's, Dillards, places like that. I think it's worth the money, because it works for me. I tried it at a friend's recommendation and was very pleased with the results. I've been using it for a couple of years now. As for the other expensive brands......I used to use something from the Estee Lauder line, can't remember the exact name.......something like Daytime Refresher. It cost almost as much as Strivectin and came in a much smaller bottle (that was before Strivectin came out). It was a lot like the Olay Rejuvinating serum.......really left your skin feeling smooth, a great base before putting on make-up (which is why I like using the Olay Rejuvinating serum in the daytime, and the Strivectin at night. Both work well and this system seems to work great for me). BTW Strivectin has added some products to their line.....a hand cream, a product for under-eye circles, and an eye cream. The only other product I tried was the eye cream. It was also expensive, and I didn't think the results were that great......less expensive eye creams (the Loreal retinol eye cream I mentioned above for instance, or the Olay Rejuvinating eye serum) seemed to have better results for less money in my case. But as far as Strivectin......I love it and plan on continuing to use it! My opinion is that it's worth the cost.

I've been using coconut oil and shea butter. I cover my feet with socks afterward so I don't slide out of bed. It's helping.

Here's what the Indian women where I come from swear by. And it's cheap.
They go to the dollar store and buy a bottle of baby lotion, a small bottle of olive oil, and a bottle of vitamin E oil. They go to the baby department at Walmart and buy a tube of vitamin A&D ointment. They put it all together in a bowl and mix it up with a mixer and they put it into pretty pink jars and give a jar to all the women in the family.
My Mom who has great skin has used nothing but Elizabeth Arden my whole life, but recently they stopped making her favorite product so my aunt gave her some of the homemade stuff and she loves it.
I tried it and it's better than some of the very expensive creams I've tried. A little greasy when you first put it on, but it feels good and the next morning, your skin is so soft and looks great.

I recently went to a podiatrist for the first time for a problem with a toe. He told me to buy some stuff called Aquaphor ointment (it looks a lot like vaseline and is made by same company that makes Eucerin skin lotions) and put in between my two toes where the problem was every night. I've been putting it all over my feet when I go to bed and then putting on socks and sleeping with the socks on. It is really helping my feet feel soft and smooth. It's available at any drugstore and I also found it at K-Mart.

Neutrogena facial cleaning products and toner are great for my oily skin, yet can't use heavy creams. After much testing, I discovered Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum, and although expensive, it works best for my skin at night (also use during the day in winter when air is dry).
I need something expensive for my neck, any recommendations?

Glad you found something that works, Eagle. But as far as the best price, have you tried eBay? I've gotten tons of Avon stuff there for half the price - NEW items sold by Avon ladies! Perhaps you can get better prices for your needs too.

Mustang wrote "I need something expensive for my neck, any recommendations?" Well, I would have a neck lift before a face lift. My neck is a wreck. Unfortunately, there is nothing INexpensive for the neck. I used to use a thick cream from Avon, but it did nothing for creases, wrinkles, and sagging.

Wow, how did I miss this subject? Mustang, about the vitamin E creme. I just buy some vitamin E capsules. I take whatever creme I am using and pour the Vitamin E capsules in the creme, about 5 of them. Then I mix it together. It really works.
I use to be one of those dreaded cosmetics sales people, LOL. I worked for various brands, Color Me Beautiful, Lancome, and the longest was with Estee Lauder. I tried my hand at Mary Kay and it wasn't for me. The career opportunity, not the products, they are wonderful. Anyway, when I first sold cosmetics, one of the things I was taught about the neck was, it gets treated just as harsh and with the same neglect as the feet.
For the feet, I put Extra Emolient Night Creme from Mary Kay when my feet are still a bit damp. Then I put on a pair of socks. I have a fungus problem (yuck) and when it flares up, I will use vicks vapor rub. It actually feels good.
I am still looking for something for the jaws. They are a bit droopy. I am afraid the only thing that will help is plastic surgery. I am not willing to go that far, LOL.
Cheers, Cathi

Dotsie, I use olive oil full strength. I keep some in a spray bottle for convenience and just give it a squirt when I'm ready. So far, I haven't had any problems with men 'licking my face' at the salad bar...but I'm hopeful!

Optimumsteps, for that saggy jaw area try this...Sit up straight in a chair and hold your head tilted all the way back, then without moving your head, stretch your jaw to the left as far as possible, 10 times then the right and repeat several times. This should tighten that area after a couple weeks and keep it tight if you continue doing it, easy and it works...Oh and ladies when mpisturizing those faces, hands and feet don't forget the breasts, thats right, moisturizing them as well keeps the stretch marks away and the skin flexible and smooth.... One of the cheapest, easy to get and best moisturizers, bar none is still Vaseline. Jane you're too funny. Hey, come to Vegas the men at the salad bars here are starving and lickers too if not watched carefully.

I actually spray it into my hand like you would a moisturizer. I use it anytime day or night that I wash my face. I use normal cleansers like oil of olay or something like that.

Oh, and tanning was mentioned a couple times. I know women who tan and their faces always look so healthy. I'm jsut worried about the premature wrinkling that goea with it...and skin cancer. Those of you who tan, do you worry about that? I would definitely tan a little in the off-season if I wasn't afraid of those two things.
Dotsie, I've tanned for years via the sun, I now enjoy a weekly sunbed session. I dont have any premature wrinkling and I don't ever think about skin cancer. I use good quality products and keep my skin well moisturized. My face isn't wrinkled much (although I'm beginning to see my mother when I look in the mirror!!) and I love having that lightly tanned look all year round.

Flossie, I'm so grateful that you take the time and care to use 'good quality products' to keep your 'skin well moisturized.' I live in the Southeast and many women don't take the good care (and common sense) that you do so carefully. I know of a woman who 'bakes' herself! Literally, tans to the point that she looks like burnt toast and her face is sunken and all facial lines are very noticeable. I liken her skin to a 10-year old Fossil purse! She also cleans constantly, thus she may have some type of phobia. Funny tho as she wears leopard print sun dresses and heals to attend to her yard work!

I saw a tip on a TV show and tried it. Disolve an aspirin in a tiny bit of water to make a paste and put it on the bad spots. I tried it and it works. Aspirin has the same medicine in it those expensive medications have. Very cool!

Good question. They're all bad spots. Any kind of eruption or irritation (red, white, black). If it helps something else, let me know.

Saundra you have probably been to a dermatologist, right? Sounds to me like you may have an alergy. I've broken out from the most expensive skin creams. I found the home natural remedies to be the best. The last month I've been waking up looking like I'm 10 years older. My eyes are all puffy and deep wrinkles are around them. It takes about an hour and then they get normal again. Yikes! I've been trying to avoid mirrors, but does anyone have any better idea?

Dots, my grandson had his surgery and they used tissue from a cadaver as his was so torn. But, they have him walking on it as much as possible so I'm thinking your surgery was much more extreme than his.

Well, I promised myself once I got past the divorce that I would start taking care of my face. The stress really wreaked havoc on my face--dark spots, patches, skin was bumpy/rough and red slotches. I had been using Oil of Olay and I had done some homemade sugar scrubs, used Cover Girl makeup. I looked aweful! And even worse the patch of reddish brown at the base of my neck had grown all the way around my neck and up each side of my neck and was running along my jawline!
So, I was invited to a Mary Kay party....kept my promise to myself and started using the skin care products....within 2 weeks there was noticable improvement in skin texture and tone. The dark and splotchy areas are now gone. The dark red/brown has disappeared from my jaw and neck side and it shrinking on the base of my neck. I have now been using steadily for about 3 months.
Then I decided to try the same technique on the back of my hands and lower arms--which also had the same dark reddish brown look. It is also disappearing. For the first time in years I can see freckles! Agespots are disappearing! I not only feel like a new woman--I look like a new YOUNGER woman!
I was so impressed at how much younger and healthier my skin became so quickly that I joined the company and started my own business! I want every woman to be able to feel as great as I do! What a blessing to be able to share this with others!

I'm still using the Arbonne products I got from Danita. I love the eye creme and the day creme.

klmr13 Of course I'll share what I'm using! I made a commitment to my skin's health and started using: 1. Even Essence morning and night. This works on evening skin tone, ridding skin of age spots, splotches, etc. 2. Day & Night Solution. Night Solution works at repairing damage to skin. Day Solution continues that process--but includes sun block to deter further damage. 3. I follow up with a light Age Fighting Mouisturizer. Within 2 weeks I could see noticible change and people started complimenting me on the improvement!

My oldest daughter sold Mary Kay before she went back to school. She was so driven! She even went to construction sites and handed out the books to the workers for gift ideas for their wives. Is it any wonder she was number one in sales for her region? It's wonderful products and Mary Kay did so much for women's causes.

Winter can make dry skin especially irritating. The December issue of Mayo Clinic Health Letter offers tips to relieve winter itch. Soak in the tub: Keep the water lukewarm. The temperature shouldn’t be above 90 F. Adding bath oil to the water may help retain and replenish the oil in your skin. Use soap sparingly: If possible, limit soap use to your face, armpits, genitals, hands and feet. Avoid antibacterial and deodorant soaps. Mild cleaners such as Cetaphil, Dove or Vanicream are less drying. Avoid products with fragrances and lauryl sulfates, which can be irritating. Pat skin dry: Avoid rubbing or wiping your skin. Instead, leave it moist by gently patting or blotting with your towel. Moisturize: Immediately after drying off, apply a thick moisturizing cream or ointment. Avoid creams or lotions that contain alcohol. Use a humidifier: Keep indoor air moisture levels at 40 to 50 percent. Keep your house on the cool side; between 68 F and 75 F is reasonable. Hannelore, I have the same problem on my elbows. They are so dry and cracked--ugly gray/brown color. The only thing I have found that works and is softening them up is Mary Kay Extra Emmolient Night Creme. I put it on at night and in the am my elbows are soft. I know it's going to take some time before my skin is softened and restored in the under layers, but at least I have found something that is beginning to work. I put Vaseline on my feet at night and then put on a pair of socks and sleep with the socks on (no problem since my feet are the first thing that get cold). My feet are soft and smooth......it really helps. I also read in a magazine where this is a good thing to do before you work out.....supposedly when you work up a sweat it helps the Vaseline absorb into your skin better. Go light with the Vaseline or it'll really make a mess out of your socks!!

I used to put vaseline on my feet and then put on sweat socks and rubber boots and clean my horse's stall. My feet were never softer!

Any "cream" that has alot of shea butter in it works wonders for the rough and cracked spots, much better than any lotion in my experience. Among my favorites are Nantucket Hand Therapy by Crabtree and Evelyn though I love it on my legs and feet, Body Butter from the Body Shop (the one in the beige container), and Arbonne's Intelligence hand cream. I use them all over and the shea butter in them leaves the skin so silky soft, as if to melt : ) Worth the few bucks more! Cindy

I use an oil-free moisturizer occasionally by Marcelle or Almay. They are products under $10.00CAN. I use hypoallergic mild soap, Allenbury's. Only under $2.00CAN.
I use a 30 factor or up sunscreen protection. I'm getting some spots from sun....
I won't go any further with skin lotion experimentation because I had major facial acne as a teen, enough that I did see a dermatologist and took oral treatment for awhile in addition to topical treatments.
So for me to be cyst-free for last 25 years of life so far is a real feat...and a serious relief.

And for body skin elsewhere...Kerri Lotion or a very strong lotion with lots of mositurizing. I have had to use lotions prescribed by physician because I have a condition on legs where my skin has become a bit dry and hardened. In colder winters, my skin will flake. Since living the milder winters of Northwest coast in past few year, I rarely need to use hand lotion. I should add that I haven't found much of a need to use stronger creams on my face....maybe it's supposed to be hidden blessing of naturally oily skin...wards off some (not all) wrinkles for a few more years.

And after reading this long thread for first time , I have never...used ...any lotion or moisturizer on my neck ..at all so far in life. Have never felt a need for that. Walking and cycling ..to do stuff, etc. there is no need for me to since I naturally sweat a little. Rather than worry about the wrinkles, better for my type of neck, is to focus on overall exercise, to keep it "young' or from getting thick. So wrinkles is least of my concerns.
