1st prize and 3rd prize!!! (OK, who won 2nd? )

This is the first time I've won a 1st prize at the fair. If I get time, I'll post pics on my website later this week.

Congratulations Meredith. Please do post pictures on your site if possible. I'm not surprised you won. When I looked at your site some time ago your work was beautiful. I make most of my own jewelry but I'm seriously planning to get it together to order something from you. I guess I better do it before you become famous and the prices go up!

Thanks everyone else for your congrats

The gals in my exercise class have convinced me to cancel our class next week so I can go to the awards ceremony. One of the gals wants to go, too. I told them it's 15 seconds of fame, and all the watered down punch (I hate punch, anyhow-- the sugary kind, not chatty's "proud as punch", which is good) and stale cake you can eat!

My display is pretty cool too, but unfortunately I don't have a flash camera so I won't be able to take a picture of it. Draped black "satin" background, and the jewelry is displayed over different sized and shaped wine glasses (champagne, sherry, whatever). Some of the glasses are right-side-up and some are upside-down. Mostly clear, with one each blue, green, and black for contrast.

Meredith, you absolutely must get a photo. Borrow a flash. Maybe the person going with you has one.

Hey steal one if you must. And take some of you getting the award while you're at it. (Hey, if you get a photo of the cops hauling you in for stealing the camera, you can sell it to the Enquirer and PAY for the camera!-- Well it might not be the BEST idea, but it's an idea. And you gotta' do what you gotta' do. This is a a PHOTO OP!)

You can purchase one of those throw away cameras at any store and they task great pictures, some even take digital pictures. I think they're about $8.00. You have to have photos...

I scanned all the jewelry into my computer. That's how I get the pics on my website too. It's just a matter of time...

Taking a pic of my display might be difficult because it's through glass, and the case itself isn't lit. The display is in a locked case, thank goodness!

The awards ceremony lasts for an hour, and I have no idea why it will take that long. Maybe 5 minutes of reading the names of the winners, and we get to smile and say something obscure. Then on to 55 minutes of cake and punch.

The water heater is getting delivered "sometime after 2 pm" so I may have to help hubbo with that (take out the old one. Clean the water heater shed. Install new one) and skip the awards, depending on how late it's delivered.

UPDATE:
I've also won the following, in Home & Hobbies (a different department than Gems & Minerals):

2nd place -- Professional Jewelry
3rd place -- recycled bottles
4th place -- Professional Crafts, "other".

Only one of my four entries here didn't get a ribbon. This is also the first year I've placed at all in either of the Professional classes. Orange County Fair is BIG and these categories draw a lot of entries.

So now I have 5 ribbons for 2005!

I say GO!! YOU'RE A STAR! WE NEED PICTURES!!

We're so PROUD. How are we going to BRAG unless we have pictures to go in our grandma's brag books.

Meredith, find some way to go. You deserve your moment. We know you work long and hard making your beautiful pieces. Now they have been highly recognized with ribbons and an awards ceremony. The water heater can wait. Ribbons, speech, cake and punch...now thats a different story. I wish you would reconsider.

You owe it to yourself to be there to win your hard earned rewards. The dumb water heater will be installed one way or the other. You should be there and shake the hands of the people giving you these honors and the people who admire you and your beautiful work. Thats like the stars that win the Academy Award and then aren't there to accept it, that always pissed me off, like they could care less....Hurray for you!

I agree with the others. This is important for you!!!
We need to have you go too as you can see from these posts. We all think your the star so go and receive your award in person. I think you will be happy you did.

OK, I opted for installing the water heater. It was delivered 5:56 pm. I know y'all think I'm chicken sh-- now, but there's been a steady leak to the kitchen cabinets for 2 weeks and I'm tired of it. I'm also afraid that the cabinets or wallboards will mold.

Hubbo doesn't have any friends, and his idea of a romantic fantasy is me fetching wrenches while he performs miracles on the house. He can't even go to Home Depot without me. At least this should keep him happy for a few days. And I'm glad it's done.
