Hi everyone,

I'm just wondering if anybody knows where to get perscriptions at a discount.

I know somebody who desperately needs anti-depressants, who doesn't have insurance, and can't afford expensive drugs.

This person's income doesn't meet the "low income" standards that are necessary for clinics.

Does anyone have suggestions?

Danita

Try the Canadian discount prescription online stores, Danita. It may take up to 2 wks tho. May not work in this case.

Find out who makes the prescription and check online with that company to see of they offer any discounted prescription programs. A lot of them do now.

For example:
http://www.astrazeneca-us.com/content/drugAssistance/default.asp

I also found these sites that have helpful information:

http://www.therubins.com/resource/discdrugs.htm
http://www.peoples-law.org/health/charity-care/special_drug.htm
http://www.themedicineprogram.com/

When I didn't have insurance, my pcp provided me with Prozac samples on a regular basis. I've heard of other cases where this has been done.

I saw this ad in the AARP magazine:

FREE!

Not what you'd expect to hear from a drug company. The Merck Patient Assistance Program has provided Merck medicines free to those who can't afford them for nearly 50 years. To find out if you're eligible, call 1-877-727-5400 or visit www.merck.com.

Where patients come first - MERCK!

Danita, most physicians will give their patients "samples" they receive from their pharmaceutical vendors if they know they can't afford to buy them at a drug store. The drug companies have a sample budget (even my company has a sample budget) and the doctors get the samples free. Your friend needs to communicate her situation to her doctor.

Danita, did any of these ideas help?

I'm jsut curious because I know some young adults who don't have insurance and I'd like to share with them what has worked.
