I have a great idea for all those wanting to make friends in new towns. GO to this link:

http://writing.shawguides.com/

In the little search box, type in your state... and a list of writer's conferences, retreats, and gatherings will appear. Now you can register to meet women writers in your state.

Let me know how it works for you. I learned of writing groups in Maryland I didn't know existed.

This is a very intersting topic for me. Most of my dearest friends live all over the world which is lucky for me cause I get to travela nd stay for free. My own Holiday Inn!

But I can't sit ont he porch and gab as the sun sets over a summer evening.

I just retruned from visiting dear friends that I have not seen for 20+ years. Yup, they are like family to me but we have not laid eyes on each other for that long.

Once we got past the differences in faces, hair and body sizes we all looked excatly the same in our eyes. We spent about 4 days together at their home in Big Bend National Park. I can't remember a single profound conversation or serious conversation, just a lot of chatter like we had dinner together every week for years. We fell back into our comfort zones immediately.

Of course, we talked about having kids and not having kids and filled in some blanks on history we missed up close.

I miss all these people in my life daily but I know that when I need them, they will come and will come in force. I am blessed to have so many people to rely upon and that love us as deeply as they do.

I fill in with neighbors or local "newbie" friends for dinners out or over for coffee and good talk. Who knows maybe they will develop into those life long type friends.

Lovely topic that brought so many to mind. It is like the tide, they ebb and flow through our lives.

Lynn

Lynn, you are great to keep in touch with all your friends from the past. Your vacation sounds comfy. Did you know these poeple from your sailing days? You should plan a ship reunion. Have you ever done that?

Anyone remember summerbreeze? The clown? I went on vacation last Oct and when I came back, she wasn't posting. I thought she would hang around. She was really nice. I emailed her but no answer.
Lillian owl and I were in touch at one time also. Haven't seen her around either.

Some of the women I told about this site joined, posted and then were gone. Lalapaloosa, Emmy, and Betty-Boop. Maybe one day they will stop by again and visit. I hope so.... [Frown]
