Many "looks," have been changed and made unpopular by boomer women. Boomer women are the group buying the most clothing and designers are feeling it.
Boomer women have caused a drop in couture clothing and high end designer wear. It is less popular than it ever was to go our and buy a 5,000 dollar dress!
Boomer women have said "no," often to the suit at work. Because of this, less suits are being made and commpanies that carried only conservative suits and "office clothing," are closing or changing their stock. One such store is Ann Taylor.
Boomer women have asked Gap stores for new looks at decent prices. They have asked for blazers and coats that are on the classy side and said "no," to the jean jacket in eleven different colors.
Boomer women are saying "no," to clothing that is tight, and causing stores like "Bebe," problems. They are staying with "St. John Knits," for high end wear and have caused Eileen Fischer to grow and become more modern than they were. Eileen Fischer now uses Angelina Jolie as a model and started making somewhat younger looking clothes because boomer women came of age and liked the fabrics and some of the designs as well as the price and that they were classics but said, "We want more style in the line!" Fischer is trying to deliver.
More elasticized waists are happening and small, med. and large, and X large are now being used as sizes for many dresses, pants and shirts. Boomer women want clothes that are comfy and don't want to sacafice style.
The Boomer woman is making the shoe that is comfortable or that does something for their body more and more popular. They are saying "no," to pumps and more and more boomer women are buying stylized comfortable shoes. The market for comfortable shoes, not too expensive and made for walking is a growing market due to boomer women. "The walking store," is booming and the high end pump and wild shoe with higher than high heels is suffering. Even Manolo Blahnik is making lower heels on his famous shoes. (By the way, a Blahnik shoe with a kitten heel is fashion that is at it's best and makes everything worn with it a master piece!
Boomer women who are walking, hiking and finding other ways of staying in shape are causing all those different kinds of tennis shoes! Those sport shoe stores that were for young people to have the latest are suffering and the walking shoe is taking over. Young women are wearing them because they styles are so good now that we demanded them to be!
Make up is now sheer and does something for the skin and boomer women are the reason for it. Boomer women are saying they want treatment in their make up, and they want it to be good for their skin. No more heavy masks are being made by companies, they are going toward sheer make up that can be thickened if one wants but is sheer because a boomer woman wants that. Lipsticks are not so pigmented now that boomer women are of an age where they don't want to wear blue pink in a hot shake anymore!
More and more products are being developed to make things easier for the boomer woman. Products to line the outside of you lips so that your lipstick does not bleed are big now. Products that help your lipstick stay in one place are popular because boomer women have a bit of trouble with small lines around their lips. MANY companies are responding with new products for this problem.
Even the Chanel suit is changing and is less constricting and more comfortable! Look at a Chanel suit that is new and you will see that it is more wearable than before!
There are so many changes we are making to change the market I could go on and on.
