I thought this might be a good place for us to post the wisdom of others and what we're learning as we progress toward that wisened age.

My quote is from my Dad. I'm not sure if he originated it or not, but it makes a better story that way.... And to quote him again as he would launch into some wild tale, "If this story ain't true, it shoulda' been!"

Anyway here's my favorite of his many sayings. Maybe it will be helpful to those who are encountering adversity. My Dad always said,

"Keep your eye on the donut not on the hole."

My fav. quote comes from a toast my grandmother would always give at any family gathering. I don't know the source, but given the Scottish/English and East Coast history in the family, figure it comes from there somewhere:

"Here's to us, who's like us, damn few and they're all dead."

Here's a few quotes for writers::::

Writing comes more easily if you have something to say.
Sholen Asch

In relation to a writer, most readers believe in the Double Standard: they may be unfaithful to him as often as they like, but he must never, never be unfaithful to them.
W. H. Auden

A word is a bud attempting to become a twig. How can one not dream while writing? It is the pen which dreams. The blank page gives the right to dream. Gaston Bachelard

The pen is mightier than the sword.
Bulwer Lytton

I have lots of sayings that give me inspiration and motivation. The one that comes to mind at this moment is not that profound but rings very true.

It was said by my husband in an interview for the newspaper in 1984. "Hard times ain't necesarily bad times".

Sometimes I just have to remind myself of this.

Lynn, Your husband is wise.

I love famous people's quotes and thought I would put some on periodically, but the things that my friends and family come up with are often even more profound.

My daughter said to me once. "Don't worry Mom, everything will either work out or wear off." Now we say it to each other often.
