Di Member Registered: 11/15/05 Posts: 2798 Loc: NM, transplant from NJ	Dad will be 78 on Feb 12. I'm about out of ideas for gifts. He's still quite active. Carves wooden statues of presidents, gardens, does handy work,cooks, vacuums for my step mother etc. He has macular degeneration and some arthritis, but that is about it. What's a daughter to do?? Any ideas would be great. I thought of writing a "thank you" letter,which I have done before. No regrets there!

MaryE Member Registered: 01/26/06 Posts: 15	Hello, Di. A couple suggestions... A number of people I know have given scratch off lottery tickets to elderly parents with great success. If you have enough siblings/friends/relatives you might actually give him 78, one for each year. It'll keep him busy for quite awhile and maybe he'll win something. Of course, if his macular degeneration is really bad, he may find this very frustrating... you'll have to judge that. Or, what about an outdoor outing or picnic to somewhere he hasn't been to. Since he likes to garden, maybe there's a botanical garden nearby. I took my mother to a zoo when she was in her mid-seventies, and she loved it! Good luck.

When my dad could not longer see well enough to do his beloved crossword puzzles, my brother got him a subscription to a magazine with large print crosswords in it. He loved this and did them for years.
