Ladies, I am totally flabberghasted at what to wear to our son's wedding in June, on the beach in FL. It is totally romantic and all- but I have no clue as what to wear. Too stuffy and formal most things, looking kinda prom-ish or frumpy- I need length to cover all the bad bits and haven't found anything other than sundresses in the jr. depts that are wayyyyy too young. I know the kids don't care what we wear, but it IS a wedding, a solemn event and a happy one for our family for sure. How dressed up should I get? Any suggestions as to where to look online, I've tried most of my fave sites and haven't found much out there. I don't think I would have time to choose a pattern and have something sewn, June 6 is the wedding. I've been to bridal shops but as I said earlier, too stuffy for a beach wedding. Anyone else been there and done that and can give me some suggestions? I am planning on dressing nicely yet comfortably- shoot, even the aspect what shoes to wear is stressing me out (everyone says flip flops- oh NO not to a wedding!) Give me your sage advice, ladies, and any hints! I know the old saw is for a groom's Mom to wear beige and smile - but this is at sunset on the beach, a really casual affair but so dear to my heart that my son has found his life partner, a wonderful girl that I love so. I don't want to look like Mammy Yokum out there. Help!

I would suggest linen or a linen and silk blend. How about long, flowing pants, in a soft color, with a long flowing jacket, and a bright top underneath? Everyone looks good in an outfit such as this.

I still wear long (not quite floor length) flowing skirts - the kind you twist up. They have many in beautiful bright prints and to nicely with any type of top. If you have a curvy figure, a tighter top, if not, a loose, baggy, but elegant top.

I just was browsing the JJill catalogue and they have lots of nice linen. Another store that sells pretty, casual clothes is Chicos. They both sell in stores and online.

thanks for your input, will check out Chicos (have been going there but not seeing anything for summery stuff as yet, and it'll be totally hot at sunset on the beach (please God no rain or bad weather!) I haven't been to shopthebay.com,have been to softsurroundings.com. I have gone to JJill (one of my favorites) but didn't see anything out there that said "wedding"!.Tried coldwater creek found one dress that may work but still is too dressy I feel for the occasion. I appreciate all and any help- I am just a jeans/tshirt kind of lady, I can priss up when called for for sure, just don't have to do that so often- and I sure want our son to be proud of his folks that day. My husband can get away with khaki slacks and a linen shirt and flip flops for sure. Dont want to overdress him nor underdress the occasion.

Judym, congrats on your son's wedding! My brother got married on the beach in Maui. I wore a long ethnic print tiny-pleat skirt with a nice short-sleeve top, a big straw hat, and fun jewelry. Pretty but not dressy flat sandals. You're going to be walking on sand. There are some fancy flip-flops at Nordstrom. Don't bother with nylons, they look stupid on the beach.

ditto the congrats... and good luck on your search. Been there twice; stressful; didn't like what I picked for either one, and was miserable.

Have you tried Speigel? I like Anno's flowing pant idea. What could be more comfortable... and you can get away with it these days.

Again, good luck!
