Has anyone tried the facial peel products available to the public to use at home?

Most feature Glycolic acid or Salicylic Acid.

Has anyone had their face peeled by a dermotologist? A tech?

Is anyone interested in this process?

It is a great way to cause skin renewal and although some have horror stories about peels, they go fine most of the time. The over the counter products are getting better and better.

If we use these peels, not only do they reduce fine lines but they allow new cell growth to occur.

I peel my face about once every couple of months, perhaps every three months and it pays off in spades!

How does everyone feel about peels?

I'm interested in one you can do at home. Any recommendations that won't leave you looking like you've been beaten?

A friend had one done professionally and she was shocked at how horrible her face looked. It took way longer than she anticipated before she could enter society again without people pointing and questioning her appearance. But, her skin looks beautiful now.

I have a local esthetician (sp) who has done my facial a few times. I absolutely love her! I have her do a glycolic peel with the facial and it never burns. It's an hour-long apointment, with warm blankets and warm wraps on my face, and lots of shoulder and scalp massages thrown in. Mmmmmmm.

I haven't tried anything at home yet. Probably won't, so long as I can afford to go to my girl.

I don't think I will ever do a facial peel. I do recognize the last chemical ingredient salylic acid...it was in the same topical prescription drug treatment that I used as a teenager upon the recommendation of the dermatologist..when I had severe acne.

the only thing I do with respect to my facial skin, is when I am in the shower I just gently rub my face all over with a neutral, hypoallergic soap. I refuse to use any harder chemical substance on it for peeling/ex-folliation. I do use a mild, not greasy moisturizer at times. I have spent too much time in my teen years obsessing over my skin.

right now with the sort of outdoor activities that I engage in, it's more worry about too much sun as the years roll forward.

Orchid,
With your skin color, too much of a peel could cause blotches. I would recommend nothing stronger than Renova or Retin A. I think you would be happy with Renova as it has moisture in it and it would expose some soft skin.
As you are outside a lot of the time biking, the Renova makes sense at night and then a GOOD sunblock in the daytime.

Dotsie, there is a good on at Clinique. I will find the link...
The price is right and it's a company that you can trust. Clinque is Estee Lauder, is Lancome, and Origins, in case you didn't know. Same parent company...

Here you go, Dotsie, a fairly new product but ingredients you can trust:

I only use Arbonne products and have had excellent results, plus it's all botanically based. I do a facial masque that you leave on for 15 minutes and also an enzyme peel. Very gentle, and as I say, great results.

Does one have to stay out of the sun after a facial peel or would a high factor sun block do?

Lola, a high sunblock is recommended with any facial peel no matter how heavy or light. We should never be in the sun without a sun protectant no matter what anyway with global warming and the sun's access to our skin.

It is a LARGE difference between skin that has sunbathed and skin that has not by our age! Disaster can even set in around 30 from sunbathing or tanning beds or booths.

The safe way to tan is to use a tanning agent in a cream, a spray on tan or a booth than sprays a tan on in a salon. There is no other safe way to tan.

Skin will look like leather if we have a sunbathing habit, it's just the facts.

So how much more can a person expect from a professional peel and daily exfoliating?

Anno,
There is a BIG change in skin that is peeled. It is clearer with less discoloured spots. It has no red marks here and there and the whole complextion is smoother, and of the same color. It removes small wrinkles too. It also stall small wrinkles from appearing.

In the old days, actresses used to put their faces in ICE water, with ice cubes floating in it every morning to tighten it. The peel gets rid of open pores and if anyone has acne at a late date, it helps get rid of it, completely in most people. It can take care of some freckles, and some sun damage as well. It shows new skin and increases the production of collagen.

I am constantly complimented on my skin. I've been having peels for many years.
