Not sure where to put this. I'm wondering if anyone uses mindmapping when they write. Also if anyone uses mindmapping softwhere, such as mindjet at work or for writing.

I always used mindmapping in essay prep and as an aid when teaching.

Wikipedia has an excellent description of mindmapping and also has a listing of software available. See:

Thanks Yonuh. Mountain, did you just mind map or did you use specific software?

Anne, I'm trying to find out more about it myself. My boss has me looking into a specific software program called MindJet that uses mind mapping to help with tasks such as "to do" lists and tracking meeting and minutes and I'm not sure what else. I also know you can use it in writing. Maybe Mountain Ash can explain it better? I'm hoping to have someone explain it to me so I understand it better. I'm hoping someone may know about the software too. I've been trialing it at work but not sure what to do or if it's worth us buying it.

I did not know software existed but where on A4 or white board it works for me personally.
Some students named it "spiderweb."There are many styles of learning.(see Howard Gardiner) and not everyone benfits from mind maping. It can confuse some but as I said I use it.
Will look for the software .

Mountain Ash, The software I'm trialing is called Mindjet. What I've seen so far is very powerful. I'm just not sure if it's worth getting for what my boss wants. I also read an article in a writing magazine that talked about mind mapping and was intrigued to know I could use it in writing. My boss thinks it would benefit us to have this mindjet software. So far, I haven't had enough time to figure it out.

some people get so enamoured with mindmapping that the inital idea get way laid.It was used at University as a teaching aid.along with note taking and critical reading.
If your boss thinks "like" mindmapping he may be oblivious to the fact some do not catch on. As a lecturer it was my task to recognise HOW people learned...then use that information.May be the seller did a good job with your boss.
Software is only good if its used.Keep me posted.
