I have the chills today. I've been battling a bug of some kind: cough, congestion, sinus infection, sore throat, ears plugged some, frontal sinuses hurt. Stuff like that. This is what I've done to improve the situation: Rubbed chest and outer sinus canals with menthol camphor; breathed in steam, from a steam cup; taken Cepacol; Alka-Seltzer, both softgels and desolving tablets. I'm drinking lots of fluids. But I'm freezing.
I'm fully dressed. Have a housecoat atop the clothes.
And I'm wrapped in two, full sized blankets. I have an
electric blanket on my bed, and that was cranked up
somewhat. There are some nasty flu bugs out there right
now. Not sure what caused it. My friend in the nursing
home had something similar. But hubby has been coughing. And my neighbor and I went for a 5 mile hike. We have
too much snow. My boots leaked. Feet got wet. And I think that added to the ailment. Sorry for being so wordy. How do you gals get rid of the chills? That's the questions!
Prayers and blessings,
jabber...

Jabber, try drinking hot tea with honey to warm yourself up.

Thanks Dotsie. Due to the sore throat, I've been eating Honey by the teaspoonful. And I've been drinking green tea as well. It has been a couple years since I had a cold or the flu. Don't remember ever having chills like this though. Grandpa used "whiskey sling", whiskey and sugar: Lots of whiskey and a teaspoon of sugar. But we don't drink so I don't have any of the stuff on hand. I wasted a day and half trying to feel better. I thought maybe somebody here would have a home remedie, which works for them. Thanks for caring Dotsie. You're a dear!

Mom used to call it a hot toddy. Whiskey, hot water and sugar and a good night's rest. She rarely drank.

God love ya, I wish I knew of something. I have found that when it gets to the "chill" stages, I usually have to weather it out with Nyquil, lots of rest, and time. If fever of course, then Motrin or Tylenol...but time, mostly.

I hope you feel better soon!

Definitely rub Vicks vapor rub on the bottom of your feet, then wear two pair of warm socks. The bottom of the feet are the end of all our senses and believe it or not that will really help with the congestion etc.

For the chills, I am unclear, as you seem to be doing it all exactly right. I would mix lemon and honey together in a jar or glass and take a tablespoon every couple of hours for the sore throat. Hot tea is best with lemon and honey. Be careful of ingesting alcohol as it could react with other medicines. Get someone, or you, make a big pot of steaming hot chicken vegetable soup. I wish I were closer, I'd do it for you. I think you'll just have to tough it out, and stay warm.

For chills that just won't go away, try putting on dry warm socks (a brisk foot massage could help too) and a wool hat (or at least a warm winter hat). Most of our heat escapes through the top of our head and the bottom of our feet. Warm feet will often warm the rest of our bodies, a hat keeps all that warmth from escaping out the top. Wrap yourself in a blanket, or warm sweater.

Try drinking only warm liquids for awhile, until the chills ease off: hot chicken soup, or even boil some water and drink that plain (it's actually quite soothing by itself, but you could put honey and/or lemon in it if you want).

I hope you feel better soon...am keeping you in prayer.

Chicken soup broth is a good start if you don't eat much food. So says my doctor-sister when I stayed at her home for a few days when I visited her several years ago during a Thxgiving extended holidy. And she genuinely recommends this to her patients IF they just have a cold/sniffles. check out doctor if yours persists too long.

ANd lots of warm long sleepfilled nights. If you keep on coughing at night, it is important to give yourself a break from constant coughing. I take a long hot shower and find it helps me ..both nasal passages and sleeping better.

Thank you so much, everybody! One thing I didn't know was the
idea of putting vapor rub on the bottom of my feet. I did that
this morning. Your other kind suggestions, I'm already doing. GMA
talked about olive oil and cayenne pepper: I have one in-house but not the other. I'll keep on keeping on; it'll let up soon. The weather is so rotten I can't go anywhere, anyhow. Winter has been harsh in these here parts and the season hasn't even started yet. IMO it can stop anytime, now! The 1 tip I never would have thought of was lathering the bottom of my feet with vapor rub. That makes sense, since I think it was wet, cold feet that started the whole thing, although many TV anchors have similar ailments, at the moment. Be careful ladies! This thing is nasty! Prayers and blessings,

For the times I put Vapor Rub on my feet bottoms a small piece of Saran Wrap is good wrapped loosly around the insteps of your feet too, it keeps the Vapor Rub from all soaking into the socks. The hat is a splendid idea as well, as we do lose most of the heat from our bodies through the top of the head and the bottom of the feet. Praying for your speedy recovery.
