Of course those of us who post often or occasionally, lurk often enough. Just to check out our favourite areas or whatever stuff looks worthwile to click and read more. Then we will log in if we want to participate.

But for those lurkers who never post/haven't yet posted, tell us what motivates you to take the time to read BWS at all?

I'm a pretty lazy internet forum participant..I read and participate only 2 different internet forums-- boomer women and cycling women.

I can't be bothered to even look at other different internet forums. I spend internet reading time..on news, magazine sites elsewhere.

Believe it or not some of our BWS sisters here on the forum startied out lurking and snooping but then they found they had opinions to share and they joined. It's all good!

Cheez wiz ladies!! Lurkers! Sounds ominous. I have to admit, I'm guilty of 'lurking' and not posting sometimes; but I'd rather think of myself as a spectator-about-to-become-full-fledged participant, after I get a feel for the game.

Anyhoo, Orchid I just wanted to ask you, are you a professional biker, you know, one of those who has all the clothes, and $1000 bike, does races, and etc.? Or a casual, but enthusiastic biker? Or?
Hubbie and I ride our 24 speed hybrids, down the road to the cemetery, for a good workout and a peaceful experience. It's a great place to bike ride. No traffic, quiet, lots of beautiful trees, flowers, birds, and the road through the place is loopy with numerous grades and turns. Who woulda thunk it? Experiencing Life to the Fullest, amongst the eternally slumbering. And as a bonus, we can make a quick stop and say hello, just passing through, to my dad and grandparents who reside there. I bet Canada is a gorgeous place to practice biking. Anyway, I felt compelled to 'post' and not be a lurker, even though these comments are a bunch of nothingness.

Cheers and Ciao for Now...

I think many of us 'lurk' sometimes. I only post a response when something interests me or I think I have something worthwhile to say. There are times I don't think I have anything to add to a topic, so I read and go on to the next one.

And a belated welcome to you - love your tagline!

I usually lurk for a day or two when I have been away from the forums because it takes some time to catch up with posts!

Thx Yonuh. I agree totally about posting when moved or interested to do so. This stuff is great entertainment, comic relief, and highly educational!

I've always liked the 'mind over matter' sentiment too.

FYI, I lived in Phoenix for 8 yrs in the 80s. Absolutely loved it from Oct-June (July and August?, well, you know....) Visited Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona, Prescott, etc. as much as possible. Very spiritual (to me, anyway). Ended up divorcing, out there, so moved back to Ohio (with only $1000 and a car, to my name), but I hated leaving the state and still recall it fondly. I imagine it is quite different now, with so much more population, more expensive, etc. I believe I'd consider living there again.... if/when I become unlimitedly wealthy and can afford to move my whole entourage of horses, dogs, husband and books back out west. I also lived in NM for almost 4 yrs. I really like the west, but it is SO hard to survive, economically. (Hmm! Guess I'm stuck being a midwesterner smile ) Anyhoo, thx for the belated welcome and know that I'm a former "Zonie" who still fondly rcalls my AZ days (and envy you your home).

I have several bikes but the one that you see is one that I ride most frequently. Also a 24-speed hybrid. I do wear cycling clothing or at least clothing that helps me cycle farther and in more comfort. But I avoid cycling jerseys that are plastered with teamlogos like the ones you see on racer-like cyclists. It's not me...

I returned to regular cycling when I was 32. My partner rides with me 60% of time. But our schedules don't always coincide.
We are very lucky to live in an area where one can concoct pleasant short as well as super long (meaning 4-5 hrs.) bike routes which takes one through different areas and great vistas. We've done some bike only trips over the years with our pannier baggage.

We are car-free..for me for last 28+ yrs. He stopped having a car for past 17+ yrs. We live close to many services, etc. and public transportation options.

It's great you can pop in to see your family. That's how well this can all work. Before his mother died last year, my partner used to cycle several times per week to visit his mother in nursing home near the end of his/our fitness rides and prior to that, an independent living seniors' retirement home. 'Course I joined him sometimes. Only a less than 4 kms. from our home.

Wasn't expecting to respond to bike-related query under the topic of "lurkers". smile

Sounds like you've been doing regular cycling for awhile. Consider yourself lucky to live in an area where you can cycle with not much stress.
