Just read in the newspaper this morning that California money for unemployment has run dry. They will have to borrow over 2 billion from the federal government for this year, and even more next year.

They have to pay the interest and principal back out of the general fund, not the unemployment fund. Our budget still isn't balanced and the schools are all having to take out loans while they wait for their normal payments.

It's a huge mess and it's getting worse! How is YOUR state doing?

I heard about that on the BBC today, Kathy. It was reported that federal and state employees might be issued IOU's instead of pay cheques.

Yup, and if we are due tax refunds, we'll probably get IOU's for those as well. If that happens, wonder if we'll get penalties and interest FROM the state, since that's what they do to us if we're late.

I have to pay estimated taxes all year long (self-employed), so if I have a state refund IOU, I'll just have them apply it to my estimated taxes. Then THEY can worry if the money is there or not, not me!

They mentioned tax refunds, Kathy. Blast! I cannot find the link to the BBC report.

If this country is so bad off financially where do these people expect the government to get all the money it is suppose to be giving to everyone? I trillion here and a million there, my God, no wonder we're a broke nation. And yet the fat cats seem to have no trouble finding plenty more to steal.
