I am not a cat person, but I am loving this little sweety, a calico we named Shiva. A Veterinarian told me along time ago that kittens can eat hard cat food at 4 weeks if you put a little water or tad of milk on it to moisten it. I tried that and it works. Milk will give them diarrhea if you give them too much. My cats do not get any can cat food. I learned along time ago that it makes their poop stink!--When the cat poops, you will know it. Maybe can cat food has improved since I fed it to my cats a zillion years ago, but that has been my experience with it.
