Just got in the mail, the statement from my hubby's most recent chemotherapy. Mind you, this figure I am citing is for ONE treatment. [Eek!] He needs a total of 8. The treatment on January 3 billed at $13,045.00 The labor portion of this bill is $825.00 leaving the rest to the drug companies! YIKES! It is scary to think this is a money issue.... [Confused]

My Lord, how discusting to charge people that kind of money. I was in the emergency for 6 hours and had one shot of insulin and a bed pan twice and never saw a soul in between and they had the nerve to send me a bill for $11,645.00. For what I ask????????? [Mad]

Yes, I guess that's why cancer is called a "catastrophic illness" because along with being terribly physically and emotionally draining, it is also a catastrophe to the finances. I am familiar with these large sums. One of my chemo related injections was $8,000: it was a drug to counter act the side effects of the chemo itself. I often wondered what was worse: the cancer, or the chemo to treat the cancer. I feel sorry for anyone, patient or caretaker, who has to deal with the insults added to injury when dealing with cancer. Love and Light, Lynn

When I worked as a nurse, I saw many patients with cancer. As a whole, I would say that the pain and deaths that resulted from treatment was as great as from the disease.
It takes a a very strong body and spirit to survive the poisoning of the entire system which is still almost the only cure we know.

I'm waiting for a vaccine. Won't it be wonderful to speak about cancer in the past tense as we do with polio and other devastating diseases of years gone by.

I've often thought about my kids telling their children that Mom-Mom had to be injected with poison and it made her hair fall out. Barbaric when you think about it.

I pray it happens in our lifetime.

When I went through treatment 6 years ago, I added up the cost of all my treatments -- doctors visits, surgery, hospital, chemo, radiation, anti-nausea drugs etc. Had I paid out of pocket, it would've been ~1/4 million. Luckily there was a low co-pay then, but now everything has increased in price exponentially, both co-pays and actual treatment costs.

This is also why I offer my class for free.
