There's nothing like buying out your competition. Let's just hope the new owners let their acquisitions continue business as usual.

This is amazing. I just hope the little guys got what they deserved when they sold out to the bigger companies.

Better to sell out than be squashed out of the market. So sad!

Oh my.......economic times have caused many to see the big bucks and get out when they can!

But this can be good news for the little guys like New Mexico Soap! The customers do not like to hear stuff like this as seen in the replies here.

Gims.....how did you find out about this???

I've noticed that some of the brands above prices have increased. I'm certain its similar for all brands. I rather think Burts Bees is a bit expensive. Interesting, nonetheless! Thanks for the info!

I dunno, Dotsie, did they deserve anything bad? It's legal to sell your company, and as chatty said, better to sell than be squashed. I don't think these smaller owners are obligated to a lifetime with their products, although I like very much the idea of smaller, independent owners. Maybe they had family circumstances; maybe they were exhausted. My own work is in business with another company that could become competitors; they have strengths and so do we, so for now it's a good synergy.

I appreciated the information, though. Maybe Burt's Bees is owned by Chlorox now, but I can't see how the product has changed. Either I want to buy it or I don't.

I hate to see this happen. They often reformulate to cut costs after a buyout and ruin the products.

It also means the money goes out of the original state and into the state where the buyout company is. That's why I buy locally when possible.

Read in the paper that Playtex Products bought Hawaiian Tropic for $108 million in 2007. Then Energizer bought Playtex for $2 billion 5 months later. The sun care business is very very good.

Well, I'm a bit tiffed b/c Wal-Mart no longer accepts internet coupons! So those brands that I use I cannot use their coupons at Wally World if I receive it via the internet or email! Now, I just trot on over to Target.
