I had no idea since I stumbled across this old craft/art form of knotting, Chinese macrame elevated if you want to go far:

http://www.co.middlesex.nj.us/culturalheritage/chineseknotting/gallery.html

Simple instructions on basic knots under "Knots" at the above website.

could be useful add-on /integration for garmets, jewellery, etc.

No I don't do this sort of knotting.
It reminds me abit of macrame. Remember? laugh I was 14 yrs. old when I last did macrame.

Be persistent in digging to all the URL links. I did find this bibliography of resources:

I've seen knotting like in the 6th picture down, but not any of the more complicated pieces. I wonder how many hours (and hours, and hours) they take to make? I love the top picture the best.

Those are gorgeous! Makes me want to get back into that sort of stuff. I did macrame back when it was popular, and learned all kinds of needlework stuff growing up. My grandmother taught me all of it including embroidery, knitting, crocheting, tatting, tapestry, you name it. I loved doing all that up until a few years ago. I started a crocheted afghan for my grandson before he was born - he just turned 11 so I think it's too late to finish it now!! I don't know about weaving pot holders, Dotsie.

yonuh...it's never too late..maybe you'll get it finished by the time the grands come along smirk
I just finished crocheting a winter cap for myself. I am going to add some pretty crocheted flowers to liven it up.
I have a crazy quilt that Mom and I started over 10 yrs ago. She is gone and I don't have the heart even yet to finish it...
I macramed a coffee table with a glass top one time. I think my sister still has it.
Has anyone tried matting. My Mom did some lovely rugs. Maybe I'll take it up again. I loved drawing the pics for her to fill in with recycled clothing rags.
Now I'm feeling close to Mom. Thanks for the posts.
