The new immigration laws in AZ are going to make a huge change here. Think about Super Bowl coming here this year and all the people who will be staying in motels, expecting fast restaurant service and even faster room cleanings. It ain't gonna happen!

I've never had a problem with the Hispanics working here. Some complain about their health care without thinking about the W2's that never get turned in because they are afraid of being discovered so they just let the money sit in some...wherever the government let's it sit, unclaimed. That has to add up.

Banks that do car loans are feeling it too. Before, they didn't care if the people qualified, they just gave them the loans without any credit history, etc. Now, the cars are either missing or sitting abandoned at the Mexico border. MY SIL works at a bank and said they have very few car loans coming in now.

I think of the restaurant industry and all the other places, especially construction, that used Hispanics and paid them much less than the legal workers who can barely put together a crew now.

Yes but it will eventually even off, times like these always do and it is a good thing for our country in the long run. Mexico needs to educate their citizens and train them to be able to come here legally and earn a decent wage, or better still earn a decent wage right where they are. That country is so corrupt, kind of the way this one is becoming. SAD!!!

Mexico was encouraging their citizens to come here illegally and send money home. I understand why they would come and I'm sure their families were delighted to have the help.

My grandparents immigrated to Canada legally and my parents immigrated to the U.S. legally. This country was built on immigration and I have strong feelings that it should be done legally.

If you feel the affects of it, it begins to make you feel differently...like my kitchen cabinets and counter tops. I know, selfish but AZ is full of Hispanics and they do the jobs nobody else wants to do for cheaper wages. Yes, they send money home but don't we help out our families too? At least they aren't living off welfare like a lot of American citizens are.

I'm not sure a decent wage is available in Mexico. That's why they all came here. I believe in doing it legally too and if you don't live in AZ you may not feel the full impact. I'm sure CA will feel it too but I'm not sure if they have passed any new immigration laws.

I know, touchy subject.

A while back Chatty said something that opened my eyes a bit about border states and why people there often feel differently about illegals than some of the rest of us do. I live in a city where Latinos are very prevelant, but I imagine most of these immigrants are legal. I don't think I can fully appreciate the issue.

I don't know about the new laws in Arizona. Anyone care to fill me in?

They are attempting to write even more new laws, which I agree with like, just because an illegal gives birth in AZ doesn't mean it will be an American citizen and get our rights.

For now, if you are caught employing illegal immigrants, you lose your license to practice business here for one year. If you are caught a second time, you lose your license forever.

I may have sounded like I'm for the illegal immigrants being here, which I'm not. I am just being selfish when it comes to impacting my life. And, if they start closing down Mexican Food restaurants, I'm going to cry!

SoCali is continually building new schools for all the Mexican illegal children, with my tax $$.

I think they should be allowed to work here. I don't think that children of illegals should be granted citizenship.

I agree. Work here and pay taxes like the rest of us suckers have to do!

Maybe someone can help me here. I got an email last week that said Pell Grants were being given to illegal immigrants but Americans were being refused because they were NOT immigrants. Huh? Any truth to that?

Hmmmmm. I still don't know how I feel. Yup, if you work, pay taxes, but then of course they are going to want more money. Citizenship if you are born here? I think I do agree with that, but I am not sure why.
