I was watching a program late last night and they had mothers carrying pictures of children who were either disfigured or died while in college from something that could have been prevented. Its called Meningitis (a specific form) and a child can be vaccinated against it before or even during their attendance at college. It is something a parent never thinks about or hears much about until its too late. One girl in order to be saved lost both her legs and an arm. Most others needlessly die from this disease. Apparently it is highly contagious and not that rare either. The schools try to keep outbreaks as quiet as possible needless to say. Please ask your childs physician about this disease and have your college kids vaccinated against it. Better to be safe rather than sorry....

chatty, thanks for this reminder. I have heard of this. I believe there was a case of meningitis at one of the local colleges here. I need to ask our pediatrician about htis tomorrow. My daughter has an appt. on her day off. She just loves me when I schedule appts for her day off.
