It's too long to post here, but click here for the details about what happened to my son.

If your kids have gone through this, I'd love to hear about it. I'd especially like to be able to tell him about it.

Thank you,

Oh Sher...that poor baby. Girl I was with you every step of the way. My heart was hurting for him as well. While you are right that in a month or so he will be as good as new, it still breaks a Mother's heart to see their babies suffer ANY time and ANY kind of pain.

My youngest did not do that, but he split wide open the top of his head on New Year's day when he was four. He ran into a dresser drawer corner and wham! I won't go into details about the stiches or needles, but suffice to say I DO understand. And if it makes you feel any better, the bills pile up, and it gets tight whether you work in corporate America, or from home.

My best to you son, and to you!

JJ

Oh wow Sher,

What a horrible thing for him and you to go through! I hope he's feeling better really soon. You are blessed to be able to be home with him.

The worst my son went through was when he was 4, a "friend" pushed him off of our stoop and he cut his head open. I think he passed out when it happened and his "friend" ran off scared and left him there because as soon as he started yelling, I ran out and he was already covered in blood. Not nearly as bad as what you went through but he did require stitches.

All the best,
Robin

Sher there are no words except to say you are both in my prayers. I have been fortunate that neither of my sons were eve hurt bad, the usual scrapes and scratches. But Mark my youngest was born with a cleft lip, not palate but he had no upper lip on one side. Can you imagine the site of this infant being wheeled to the operating roomat only 10 days old.

Sher, my heart goes out to you. What a terrifying thing to happen! For both of you. As for the infection, didn't the doc prescribe antibiotic prophylatically for the roots? (Not that kind of prophylactic, you guys!)

That story is so terrible Sher. Poor baby. It must be awful for him and for you too.
I was in a car accident which loosened my molars and I wound up with a lot of root canals.
They can't do much of anything to prevent it. The mouth is not a place where antibiotics work well. It is one of the most germ laden places in the body and when the roots of teeth are disrupted, infection often occurs.
About the best you can do is keep him well nutritioned, rested, and well hydrated so he can fight off infections which can show up for a long time. And prayer will help too of course.
Send him our love.

Thanks, guys. This has been awful for sure. He's much better today, but nowhere near the end of what he has to go through. I'm terrified he'll have to have root canals and even though I've never had one, I hear they are terrible.

He hates gas and always refuses it at the dentist, so we can't even hope for that to help the pain.

We go back Monday for a check up. I wish so badly it were me and not him.

Aww Sher - the poor little guy. Root canals are not fun - but a really good dentist/specialist makes all the difference.

My boys are the rough and tumble type [Smile] (or klutzy...) - we've been through burned hand, stitches, broken arm, cracked ribs, cysts removed from eye (real fun for a 2 year old), three surgeries for ear tubes and the latest was knee surgery last year, and he's on the list for another knee surgery sometime....oh and I forgot, wisdom teeth removed [Smile]

Hope your little guy heals without having to go through the root canal stuff.

Sher, while not life threatening, this certainly scared the life out of you and your son! Sounds awful. This happened to my husband when he had just gotten his adult teeth. Same exact thing: 4 front teeth lost when he somersaulted by accident over the handle bars of the bike. When we would go by that "hill" in his forties, he would say, "Yup, that's where it happened." The hill was a teeny slope, but appeared to be a hill to a kid. Anyway, that area of his mouth needs special attention. He wears a bridge. Hope you both are better soon. Love and Light, Lynn

I feel for you in this situation - one of my sons was bitten by a dog on the day of his 5th birthday party - I will never forget the sight of the blood on wounds on his head and his ripped open lip - I managed not to fall apart until he went into the operating theatre. But now at 17 he is as right as rain, just a couple of little scars. Tke care of that precious child of yours and know that this tough time will pass.
