I "inherited" about 3 flats of grapes (22 lbs. each [Eek!] ) at the end of the day at the Farmers' Market Sunday. Glad this wasn't in the summer because I could only fridge one flat, which takes up an entire refrigerator shelf! I managed to bag and give away 1 flat to all my neighbors. I took another flat to Human Services in the poor area of my town, where people can drop off free food and clothes.

I'm eating them straight but would like some suggestions as to how to use 22 lbs. of grapes before they spoil. That, or I'll make another trip to Human Services.

I don't want to make wine. Also, I don't use any form of animal meat except fish.

Chatty? Anyone?

Does anybody know how to make raisins?? [Eek!]

I am no help. The only thing I can think of is making grape jelly. I don't even know how to do that. No help.

I know you can freeze them. Vicki eats frozen grapes all the time.

Meredith, I have a friend who works for two tv cooking shows. I'll see if she has any ideas for you.

Never realize how much sugar is in jam, until you actually see it in print. [Eek!]

Meredith go to this site and there you should be able to search to get what you need:

www.fresnobee.com

Fresno California is the grape capital in this country and then there is Australia. The Bee newwspaper should be able to supply what you need.

Also for other uses try:

www.graperecipes

and search around for ideas.

Thanks everyone! I went to some of the recipe sites and decided the ones that say "peel" or "strain" are a little too ambitious for me [Frown] However, I saw one recipe for carmelized grapes and another for grapes in kirsch which I may have to try next week. Maybe I'll freeze them in the mean time so they won't spoil.

For all I know, these grapes could've come from Fresno, as farmers from all up and down the state sell at this market, one of the largest in SoCali.

I got one flat each of green, purple and red. I kept the red ones as they were the sweetest.
