From the 1700s. The cakes sound especially good.

Some of my favorite recipes are oldies. I have my husband's grandmothers recipe file and there are some winners in there. The family favorite is her bread and butter pudding.

I just scrolled through all the recipes because I thought I had posted it, but I haven't. I'll get the recipe and post it tomorrow. It so simple and so delicious. All you do is butter white bread, float it in an egg and mil mixture and sprinkle with cinnamon, but I'll get the amounts.

FIanlly. I remembered to bring my recipe book into my office.

Nana's Bread and Butter Pudding

-Beat three eggs
-One cup sugar
-2 cups milk
-Beat those ingredients
-Add a teaspoon of vanilla and a teaspoon of cinnamon
-Mix
-Butter four slices of white bread and cut each into six peices
-Pour the fluid mixture in a 9x12 baking pan, then place the bread on top.
-Sprinkle with a cinnamon/sugar mixture.
-Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

This is so simple and delish. Nothing extravagant, but homey! Let me know if anyone tries it.

I've made bread pudding with the same ingredients (although I don't measure anything!) and it is delicious, especially in the winter. Try adding diced peaches (from a can) or some cranberries, cut in half. As Racael Ray would say - YummO!!!

Oh, I love that idea. Do you just sit them on top? Let me know and I'll try it.
