Today the Catholic church celebrates the feast day of Elizabeth Ann Seton. She was born an Episcopalian but later converted to Catholicism.
She loved to read and she eventually founded the first free Catholic school in America in Baltimore, MD. I believe she is a patron saint of teachers.

I was wrong. She is the patroness of: death of children, loss of parents, widowhood and in-law problems (never heard of that one!!). <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" />

Bluebird ,
Her shrine is at Emmisburg Maryland a little over I think and hour from my home . She was a married widow with two children who became a nun . I forgot the rest of the story , but maybe Dotsie would know the rest of the story . there was a TV movie made of her life years ago.

I go to a church in Lake Ronkonkoma- St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. When I worked in Manhattan, I went to the Church which had been rebuilt on the site of the Church in which she was baptized. She was a most interesting person!
