Like you, I prefer using natural fibers but ACKrylic has its place as well. I use ACKrylic for charity knitting and have found a woman with or w/out children, living in a shelter, doesn't have the means to care for natural fibers. While ACKrylic isn't warm like natural fibers, it's imminately practical for such a situation. Are you familiar with the Knitters, Weavers, Crocheters, and Spinners Travel Guide 2006? It's not all inclusive but it's a terrific first edition of yarn shops, fiber farms, etc. across the USA.
