I just found a lump in my arm pit area. It was bothering me the other day, felt inflamed. I felt around there and found a round ball like lump. I had surgery last year on a cyst that was on top of the same arm near the shoulder. It kept growing, went from a small ball to a tennis ball in size within a few years so I finally decided to have it taken out. It didn't hurt or bother me, just the size started to look gross and I couldn't wear sleeveless tops.

I went to the doctor and she felt it and said it's likely another cyst. The difference with this one is it's sore.
She said to ignore it. She said it may be blocked and eventually it will stop being sore.
Has anyone else had these lumps on their body.
I'm kind of wondering if I should see a specialist or just not worry about it.

Don't ignore it. Go to another doctor. It is your body. Take care of it soon. It is probably nothing to worry about but you want to know for sure. xoxo

When it comes to lumps, don't take no for an answer - if your doctor won't act (she probably will if you insist), get a second opinion, and do it right away.

My brother had to endure a lot of shrugging shoulders and "oh, it's nothing to worry about" before he finally went to Emergency and insisted that they find out once and for all what it was. His story didn't have a happy ending, mostly because it took him so long to get diagnosed and he was too weak going into the treatments to begin with.

Your doctor's probably right, it's probably nothing to worry about - but darn it, don't take the chance - make sure it really IS nothing before you stop worrying about it!

Hi Katebecca,
I agree with these ladies, do whatever you need to do to find out what it is and deal with it. I had a lump in my breast. They did a needle biopsy and said it was benign.

But I had done a lot of research and found that at least 5% of needly biopsies had false negatives, so I had them take it out. Turns out it was benign - it was a fibroadenoma. But I felt so much better just getting it out!

Do what makes you feel best...

I definitely agree. I have a good friend who has survived three rounds of cancer. Two of the times the doctors told her that she was fine but she insisted on follow up tests that ended up showing that she did have cancer. Because everything was caught early, she is still alive today. You know your body best. And hopefully the doctors are right, but at least you will then have peace of mind.

Are you kidding me! I just reported (and fired) my GYN for refusing to treat me for a cyst on my breast. I asked for antibiotics and he said no. He is so fired! 1-1/2 weeks later it was swollen and blood and puss (sorry) were coming out. My regular doc gave me the antibiotics I should have had. Not only did the bad man cost me more money, he caused grief, anxiety, fear and a bunch of other emotions.

Go to another doctor and fire the one you have. Remember, you are the customer. You pay the doctor. It's called supervised neglect whether it's in a dental office or a medical office.

For sure I will go to another doctor. Where I live you can't change doctors. If the new doctor knows that you are ditching your old doctor they won't take you on, they stick together. And they ask you when you go to them who your previous doctor was.

I got my current doctor by lying and telling her office that I moved, didn't have a car and it was inconvenient to stay with my doctor. They went for it and took me on as a patient.

My doctor has been very thorough up until now. Who knows, maybe she is overworked and was having a bad day.

I am going to go to a clinic tomorrow and see another doctor. This I can get away with as it's on the weekend and my doctor is only open during the week. I guess I have to work the system, that's the way it is here.

There is a new test out that can find a tumor when it is the size of a pin head. It is called Thermography. It is the best test there is anywhere. The bad part is that few doctors, clinics, hospitals have it yet. It is non-invasive, no flattening of the breasts, it works with heat someway. The machine, like a sonagram registerts a pin point of heat if cancer is there. Ask your doctors BEFORE you have the regular breast smashing mamogram. This is the latest thing for we women in all the new medical journals, and hopefully it will be available everywhere soon...Ask your doctors.

Chatty, I didn't know that and I just had a mammogram. Funny thing was, this time it didn't hurt.

Kate, do whatever you have to do. Maybe you can call your doc's office, explain what happened and go back to be treated. Here a patient must demand expensive tests because HMO's don't want to pay for them. Again, prevention seems to be too expensive.

You got great advice Kate. I agree that you should hear another opinion.
