There are too many strays put to death needlessly yearly all across the nation. The Governors of our states made it into a law and are now enforcing that law. yonuh Member Registered: 06/14/06 Posts: 2447 Loc: Arizona	Good for Nevada! Arizona is supposed to spay or neuter all pets before returning to their owners when they end up at a shelter lost. But the owner has the option of paying a 'fine' instead of the surgery. Of course, if they choose the surgery we waive many of the other fees we charge for 'room and board' depending on how many days the animal is at the shelter. I'm proud to say that we don't euthanize any adoptable animal because of lack of space. We just got more chihuahuas from Oakland. And we swap dogs with the shelter in Phoenix. It's interesting that little dogs are adopted in a heartbeat here, but in Phoenix, it's big dogs. AvalonBlondi Member Registered: 11/07/05 Posts: 1096 Loc: West Chester ,PA	I have a sweet new 11 week old puppy ...male...I'm going to have him neutered...but I just read that dogs need their hormones for growth and that they shouldn't be neutered before they are 12 months old...I never knew that...do you all think that fact is correct? Should I wait until he is 1 year old? I wish I knew the answer but usually have females and wait to have them spayed until after they have had one heat. The incidence of reproductive cancers is practically zero when sterilization is done early. Also, there is less likelihood of behavioral problems such as marking and aggression. Recovery time is faster then, too. Surgical procedures have progressed so there is little risk to the animal.
