The other night I was sitting watching TV, it was about 1:30 a.m. and the wind outside was blowing forcefully about 40 mph. I heard a kind of thud like something on my patio maybe fell. I got up quietly and went to look out the security door to see what I could see. Peeking out through the outer doors screen I saw a box of milk bottles on the ground, and up on the table where they usually were I saw something large and furry. I flipped on the porch light and there it was looking back at me, a huge racoon. It just sat there so I opened the door slowly and tossed out a couple milk bones I always have around. At that the racoon took off, never knowing they were cookies. I have lived here for 20 years last Wednesday and never have I seen one racoon and it was a big one.

It is scary hearing noises like that at night - especially when alone! Sounds like he was more scared than you were.

So true Yonuh, and he was lucky he had four legs not two because besides cookies I also keep a loaded .38 near by... Any intruder sneaking around here should be scared, very scared.

26 years ago, when we first here, we had a racoon by the back kitchen window. Hubby turned the garden hose on that critter to chase it away. They're destructive little creatures; the racoon, not WB. Well, on second thought, him too.

We used to have raccoons appear nightly on our cottage veranda...they used to stand up and look in the living room window...all we could see were their eyes. They were very curious and mischievous and we always had to make sure we didn't leave any food out. We made the mistake of leaving lobster shells out (I had brought some back from the East coast as a treat for my Dad), well the racoons were so funny that night, noses stuck in the claws, etc. But we received a lot of complaints later from the farmers in the area, apparently the raccoons had dragged those shells all over the village and left them in various farmers' fields along the way.
