soothing, sharper, safari, stray

Armed with my camera I start my safari
Not to Africa, but in my backyard
Curious to find something of interest
Not much a trip for such a die hard

I twist my lense to make the view sharper
Then stray 'cross the lawn to the old white gate
Not known to me was a snake with a slither
Coming behind me, matching my pace

Stopped in the corner to frame a good shot
I take my stance, then feel a sensation
What was that feeling that gave me a chill?
Was it real? Or my imagination?

Soothing my nerves I return to my task
Intent and with a photographer's brace
What do you think was looking back at me?
But, that stupid snake, a grin on its face.
