I came across this and found it very interesting. I hope you do too. It kind of makes you think when we hear so much in this day and age of countries spending billions of dollars here and there. Wow!

Understanding a Billion

The next time you hear a politician use the word "billion" in a casual manner, I wonder if he/she
really understands the magnitude of the number, whether in terms of apples and oranges or
more importantly dollars. A research agency in Michigan recently put the number into
perspective in one of it's releases:

A billion seconds ago -- it was 1959

A billion minutes ago-- Jesus was alive

A billion hours ago -- our ancestors were in the stone age

A billion days ago -- no one walked upright on earth

Ok, I guess that means I'm a billion seconds old...no wonder I'm so tired.

Oh boy Bluebird, move over I need to rest too...

jan, this is amazing. I've never heard this before. I was born in 1958 so I'm over a billion seconds old. Wow. I would have guessed more than that.
