I don't understand how they can pay taxes when they don't have a social security number. I would venture to guess that if they are paid by check, the money deducted never makes it to the government. Many of them are paid in cash.

I don't believe in amnesty because it is an open invitation for others to come in illegally. We cannot afford to support so many people who are not contributing to our society and not willing to become Americans. I do realize most are contributing, but just look at the border states and the condition of their jails, medical care facilities, etc.

I've heard many differing opinions regarding this subject. It's very disturbing. With my limited knowledge of the situation, I think people who want to become citizens of the U.S. should be able to speak English, be self supporting and go to the end of the line of people who have been trying to become citizens the legal and right way.

One last plug for the Fair Tax: Under the Fair Tax, illegals would be paying taxes because it is a national sales tax INSTEAD of income.

These people are called illegals because they are breaking the law. If they are breaking the law to get here, seems like we are inviting criminals into our country. If the rest of us obey the laws, shouldn't everyone?

Maybe our decision is to be a nation of laws or not.

Where we live, there are thousands of illegal Mexicans who work in the poultry industry, sad to say. They drive automobiles with a license, without insurance; they drain our local educational and medical resources, they work with fake SSNs...and use "no speak English" as an excuse. I ask you, why DON'T they speak English? Why don't they learn? I, as an American taxpayer, am sick and tired of supporting these people with all benefits American citizens have....some even want tuition free college educations, for heaven's sake. My own kids would like that, too! Somehow, we've got to decrease demand for this labor; then they'll stop entering this country illegally and plundering our resources.

There's one thing this natural born citizen has learned, in her fifty-four years of life...when the country's economy is healthy, we hear very little concerning legal or illegal immigrants. The most honest, telling factor as to how we are REALLY fairing, economically, is the prevailing public attitude toward these groups. During a boom, it's more or less an open-arms policy...during a bust, it's the keep-out! sign we'd like to see posted.

Actually, the economy is doing very well. The unemployment rate is under 5% and just yesterday I heard that a poll said consumer confidence was way up last month. You just don't hear any good news in the mainstream media.
