Hello! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Teresa Hamilton and I have published a book entitled "The Power of Addicted Love." Prior to the life that I now live, I was married to a drug addict and alcoholic for fourteen years. The dysfunction and emotional pain took me on the biggest ride of my life. After many years, I found the courage needed to break away from it all. I was able to overcome this pain but it didn't come without a price. This is a story about my personal journey and the struggles I endured while setting my boundaries. It's a story about self destruction as well as survivorship. We all have the ability to unlock our own emotional cage. Only, I needed the key in order to release myself from my own imprisonment. My story became my mission in finding that key. I invite you to visit my website at www.thepowerofaddictedlove.comto preview my book. It is an inspirational story to both men and women. I truly feel that my story will help thousands of individuals. It brings me great satisfaction in sharing my journey with individuals who find themselves living in similar situations. Feel free to email me anytime at thepowerofaddictedlove@cox.net I look forward to hearing from you Teresa Hamilton

Hello Dotsie!
Thank you! My book was just published this summer and will become "live" in 3 weeks. It's not in the bookstores yet, but will be available in over 25,000 once it's available. I am able to take "Pre-Orders" via my website.
I wrote this book because I feel that there are so many individuals who are living in my "old" shoes. I want them to know that there is help out there, there IS a way to get ourselves out of the spider web we often find ourselves in. In my case, my story covers all areas of addictions i.e alcoholism, drugs, abuse, adultery, fraud. In other words, it was me up against the zillion personalities of my ex husband.
I feel my story is such an inspiration....and look forward to sharing it with everyone!
Teresa :-) p.s. I will be starting a "Part two" this fall. So many things happen "after" divorce.

Hi Chatty Lady and Jaw Jaw
Thank you so very much for your kind words! I feel that many people do not have the strength to leave an abusive relationship let alone write a book about their story, hence the reason why I felt it was so important to spread my message.
Addictions touch every corner of our lives. Even if someone has never been in an abusive, addictive relationship, chances are...they know someone who has. My story has a fairytale ending.....which is sited in my book. But I had to shed alot of tears to get where I am today.
Please email me anytime! I love to hear feedback!

Hi Teresa, welcome to BWS. I'm glad you made it out alive to tell your story to help others. I went to your site and clicked on "bibliography" because I was expecting to see a reference and/or resource list. What I saw was your profile, as in biography. Do you have a bibliography page, or did I miss something? I lived in Phoenix for 15 years. Places that were dairy farms are now housing estates! Good luck with your book. Love and Light, Lynn

Hi Lynn!
I know there are so many people living in the same shoes that I once did. It breaks my heart because I know how broken down I was at the time. It was all I could do to just brush my hair, put on makeup and put on my usual "fake" smile. I work in the legal field and I see alot of abusers behind bars. It's sickening, yet they in the right place......away from their victims.
Also, thank you for your insight regarding the bibliography page. I did not reference any resource list so I believe our webmaster decided to lable it bibliography (brief history of myself). Although, it really doesn't go into detail .....yet my book certainly does.
I will look into your book as well.....I wish there were more books like ours that were on the market while we were going through this.
Take care! Teresa Hamilton

p.s. Hi Lynn
I just looked at my website again, your absolutely right! It should read "biography".......NOT bibliography. Good catch!
I looked it over a thousand times and your the first person that brought it to my attention. Thank you!
I will email our web guys to have that fixed. I'm surprised they didn't catch it!

Hi Teresa, I have a knack for that kind of thing. One time when our mortgage papers were ready I noticed all kinds of typos. I do wish I could put my editing and proof reading skills to work for pay. I especially have fun when listening to well-paid TV news anchors read their prompts which have grammatical errors. I joined Toastmasters and gave my first speech. During the speech I said, "My husband and I moved to Colorado." The grammar coach corrected me, saying I should have said "My husband and me!" I didn't say anything to her; I just gritted my teeth. Anyway, I'm glad to see that what I commented on your site was helpful to you. Love and Light, Lynn

One more thing, Teresa: for every perpetrator of SA and DV that is in jail, there are 10 who aren't yet belong there. Hey, maybe you and I can do a co-book signing in October during Domestic Violence Awareness month. My parents live in Chandler and I have friends in Gilbert, and I know my way around Sky Harbor. Dianne of this site has a book that takes place in Phoenix too. Oh, you already know that. LLL

Hi Lynn!
Your email made me smile.......we are our own worst critics. I am sure I have said "my husband and I" a thousand times......but your right, the corrected way is "my husband and me".
A co-book signing in October sounds like alot of fun! Actually.......speaking of book signings, since I am new to this, I obviously have never done a book signing before.....so can you or anyone else shed some light as to how these work? Do you personally contact Barnes n Nobles, Borders, etc? Or do you have someone else contact them?
How many books do you bring with you.....and do you need to supply your own tables, etc.
I think I will call the district office and go to another author's book signing. Perhaps I can watch what they do, etc.
Teresa

Welcome Power of Addicted Love.
Lynn, I'm gritting my teeth reading about your ignoramus "grammar coach", who wouldn't know correct grammatical usage if she tripped into a 10' pile of it. If that happened to me, I would've stood up and started a 2-hour lecture on grammar, because, frankly, she's doing everyone in that group a disservice when she dispenses blatantly incorrect information. Then, of course, someone would've appointed ME as the grammar coach, which in 20/20 hindsight is probably a good reason for you to have not spoken up.

Okay, to set the grammar straight, the proper use is "My husband and I moved to Colorado." Take away "my husband" and you have "I moved to Colorado." You wouldn't say, "Me moved to Colorado" unless you were 4 years old. The grammar coach had me doubting myself so I went to the library to check the grammar reference books. My bible for grammar is "The Elements of Grammar" by Strunk and White, but it's packed in a box during our wait to move into our house. Oh, the grammar coach did not have a grammar reference book on hand. I should have asked, "What is your source for that mis-correction?" Dotsie, the first speech was a couple of weeks ago. It was called an "Ice Breaker." I won the blue ribbon for best speech of the day! The evaluator (not the grammar coach) asked me why I thought I needed Toastmasters. If only they could read my nerves during the speech. I like having the practice, which helps me between "big" speeches/presentations. Teresa, I'm thinking you might want to post your question about signings in the women's writing forum because I'm sure others would like to read and respond. Book signing is certainly a topic in its own right, don't you think? And yes, I do have some ideas. Love and Light, Lynn

At last...people who take grammar seriously. I, too, was impressed by the snippet of your book and can see some of myself in what you've been through. I was married for 10 years to an alcoholic who didn't drink - which is just all the behaviors without the brief respite of unconsciousness - and three years ago found a whole new life and happiness with a wonderful, creative and inspiring man. I'm so glad you're sharing your story, it helped me a lot to read the stories of women who had been through tough times and come out on the other side. It takes a lot of energy to write, publish and promote a book, but it is so worth the effort when you have something meaningful to say. Good luck with the distribution phase! Joni

Here's to hoping that my story will inspire others to get themselves out of a bad situation.

Also, thanks Lynn for the advice. I will post in the Women's author regarding the book signing question.

Okay, this Arizona Dry Heat has finally gotten too close for comfort. After working all day yesterday, my husband called me to tell me we have a brush fire near our home that seems to be growing.
Long story short.........by the time I approached the area, there were so many firefighters and trucks, blocking off the street giving us nowhere to go. We sat in the car for about an hour.
I was finally able to get home, changed my clothes and on our way out to dinner......we saw MORE smoke. Another brush fire had started.
Ohhhh brother!
Too close for comfort!

Hi Chatty Lady!
We have family that lives in Vegas. In fact, we are heading that way in August. Since we're only 6 hours away, we try to drive there as a mini vacation.
