Chickadee, I was thinking about you today and noticed you haven't been posting much lately. Of course I figured you've been busy with the holidays so I'm really happy to see you posting.

I can't tell you how very happy I am that you have stuck to your guns and not smoked. To hear that you are feeling great makes me smile!

Whatever habits anyone wants to break, know that you can do it! The key is surrounding yourself with supportive people who won't sabotage your efforts. Daily reinforcement is important for awhile until you are strong enough to stand on your own. It sounds like you are.

My brother Vincent recently released from the hospital threw his pack of cigarettes away and hasn't smoked since, that ended a 37 year, two pack a day habit. He just said enough and hasn't looked back....If he can do it anyone can.

I want to help support my 22 year old daughter to stop smoking. She wants to have a baby but wants to quit smoking first.

Any tips on how she can break the habit? She said she wasn't going to smoke anymore after the first of the year.

Does hypnosis work? What about those patches? The gum?

Okay Vicki,
I am a Tobacco Prevention Specalist in Ohio. Here we have several ways she could quit. There is the Ohio Tobacco Quit Line she could call. She may call and ask if they have a referal to your states program. The number is 1-800-QUITNOW (1-800-86690. Our local hospital also has cessation classes as do the American Cancer Society and The American Lung Association. You can go to their web sites and they will direct you to your state Program There is also a program on line called Fresh Start through the Americam Cancer Society.
I would like to commend your daughter for wanting to give her to be child a fresh start. Just tell her to remember it took practice to learn to smoke and it takes practice to learn to stop smoking. So don't give up. PM me if you would like more information. I have tons of it and would be happy to share.

thanks for your help and tips. I went to the American Cancer Society and found a way to find all kinds of resources in my daughter's area. I've already printed them off and put them in the mail to her.

It's been 42 days since I quit smoking...but ah...who's counting? That would be MOI. I have lost my widdle fwend. I chew gum like a heifer and eat chocolate like there's no tomorrow. Now, I have to make a New Years resolution. Heck, I'm lost! I have had the same resolution for over 30 years. The same one I use for Lent too. I guess it boils down to giving up something I truly enjoy. This year I'm giving up chocolate? Not!
This year I'm giving up Bubblegum... [Big Grin]
