Here's another one...This film was "lost" for many years. It was the first 35mm film ever. It was taken by camera mounted on the front of a cable car.

The amount of automobiles is staggering for 1906. Absolutely amazing! The clock tower at the end of Market Street at the Embarcadero wharf is still there. (I'm also wondering ... how many "street cleaning" people were employed to pick up after the horses? Talk about going green!)

Great historical film worth watching.

Film

This film, originally thought to be from 1905 until David Kiehn with the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum figured out exactly when it was shot. From New York trade papers announcing the film showing to the wet streets from recent heavy rainfall & shadows indicating time of year & actual weather and conditions on historical record, even when the cars were registered (he even knows who owned them and when the plates were issued!).. It was filmed only four days before the quake and shipped by train to NY for processing.

Amazing but true

JJ could you post the one I sent you in an email today about the dog hugging his person. That was so adorable and shows how dogs feel about us... Those videos are awesome...

So I just played the dogs at the beach video. As soon as Spud heard the dogs barking, he was on my lap and spent the whole time staring at the screen, occasionally looking at me as if to say, what the H are they doing? You have to know that Spud hates water of any kind, and he's a poodle, a 'water dog'!! LOL

Holy skitzoid! I loved the historical video and the dog loving
his owner, video. I agree with Chats, dogs are so cool.
That historical video reminded of Grandpa; he would've loved
that one. Thanks jj! and chats and yonuh too!

Did anyone else notice in the historical video that the drivers were on the right side of the vehicle; not the left as they are today? And that drivers and pedestrians were just as crazy then as they are now? All those people crossing right in front of cars and the streetcars; and cars passing right in front of the streetcar and almost hitting people!!

Wow, looks there was NO discipline in the streets of NY then. Looks like they had more stress than now! Really a fascinating video. Thanks for sharing JJ.
