One thing, check with your local library. They have half-off sales all the time and I've found plenty of cookbooks and other assorted ones for like $1.00. No joke. Yard sales are another great way to find them. Any particular hobby in mind? Second hand book stores also have treasures in old cookbooks and maybe craft books. People often advertise all kinds of craft books and supplies, at least here, and they're always free. The only stipulation is that you offer something free before you take something. We have unloaded lots of stuff through Freecycle, including concrete chunks (I have no idea what the guy did with them, but he wanted them!) The time is right to find something new that will hold my interest and allow me to become creative in my own style. Would like to add that this is a wonderful place. But you might try your local community classes and find GROUPS that you could join to try a new craft. In my area, they offer FREE classes for some things. Since I failed cake decorating (who else but me?), I moved on to flower arranging. Don't ask. But, you could try looking into finding groups of women will like interest.
