I am looking for some new/old craft books or magazines. Have found myself getting a little edgy lately and would like to try crafts as I have never done any before.

Welcome Granny to the forums. We're happy you've joined us and I think you'll get some excellent advice on where to find those jewels.

One thing, check with your local library. They have half-off sales all the time and I've found plenty of cookbooks and other assorted ones for like $1.00. No joke.

Yard sales are another great way to find them. Any particular hobby in mind?

Again welcome!

WELCOME Granny and the idea given by Georgia is a sound one. Second hand book stores also have treasures in old cookbooks and maybe craft books. You might run a FREE classified ad in your local paper asking for OLD craft books etc. Never know when someone having some might want to downsize.

Welcome, Granny. Another resource is Freecycle, if you have one in your area. People often advertise all kinds of craft books and supplies, at least here, and they're always free. The only stipulation is that you offer something free before you take something. We have unloaded lots of stuff through Freecycle, including concrete chunks (I have no idea what the guy did with them, but he wanted them!) I love reading the offers on there; one man's junk is truly another man's treasure! smile

Thank you for the suggestions and will certainly try them out. Have been a cross stitcher for over twenty years. The time is right to find something new that will hold my interest and allow me to become creative in my own style.
Would like to add that this is a wonderful place. Have spent many hours since finding it going through and reading some of the different forums. So glad to be a member.
Thanks for the welcome.

One more suggestion, then I'll shusssh. Fat chance, LOL. But you might try your local community classes and find GROUPS that you could join to try a new craft. In my area, they offer FREE classes for some things. Since I failed cake decorating (who else but me?), I moved on to flower arranging. Don't ask.

But, you could try looking into finding groups of women will like interest.

Just a thought.
