Hurricane Irene has passed here in the Northeast, now we'll wait to see how much flooding there will be. I am pleased with the decisions made by the Officials of our area; a job well done. "Goodnight Irene" as the song goes.

We had cloud cover yesterday, but that was it. So happy Irene wasn't as bad as 1st thought. Prayers go out to those who lost loved ones and suffered property damage.

I'm so glad Irene wasn't as bad as she had the potential to be. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who is having to clean up after the mess.

The images we are seeing here look a LOT like the stuff we had to deal with here in Galena after we received 15 inches of rain in 12 hours in late July. (Personally, we only got some minor seepage in the basement. A benefit of living on a hill, no doubt.)

Many people around here are still cleaning up. I'm not sure of the details, but it looks like individual property owners here will be eligible for State aid, but not be eligible for FEMA aid because the storm was "confined to too small an area."

(Basically the storm just sat over two counties, one in Illinois, one in Iowa for the whole time. But since TWO STATES were involved, each state's damage is calculated separately.)

Go figure! At least those impacted by Irene won't have to deal with THAT loophole!

It sure is heartbreaking to see what some people are going
through. On the other hand, it's heartwarming to know the
storm's original intensity diminished before more damage occurred.
