I do. My sister in law is between jobs and has been for sometime. She is not covered at all.

My older sister has worked the same job for 13 plus years, she has no health care, she is a part time worker, and her company does not provide it. What they do provide she cannot afford.

Me! Have not had it in years. I was just thinking of asking anyone here that, if they had NO health care and had a lump or something, what would they do?

I have a friend who has no health care. She went to emergency because she thought she was having a heart attack (it was an anxiety attack) and the bill was over $8,000 for one night and all the tests. She can't pay it all at once and it's making her more anxious.

I know people at work who have health care insurance and still go to the emergency room and refuse to pay for it. We have excellent insurance and these people cause everyone's rates to up. It makes me very angry.

Those at your work, Saundra, are hurting everyone with that behavour! I never thought of that but, yes, people could do that! That's quite the scam!

Saundra, you are right. I was mad as well when I had healthcare provided free to me.

Now that I am on the "other side", I also see the NEED for healthcare when one cannot afford it. It's a two-way street...double-edged sword.

What I do is "beg off" from the doctors and tell them I am uninsured. I usually get a break. But I have to say I also do not GO to a doctor like I used to. No more mammograms or paps for me.

Currently I have two teeth that are broken...one lost a large filling. I am dreading going to hear the cost. Thankfully, NM is such a poor state, there are dentists that base your fees on income. I just have to get them my tax return. I HATE telling "all" just to get healthcare.

Like I said...a two-edged sword that many of us have no control over.

I would contact the American Cancer Society about getting a free mamagram and a pap smear . You can get a mamagram if you don't have health insurance . Go to their web site . I had insurance company one time that did not pay for my mamagram for their was a dedutiable and I had to pay myself . We are no longer with that company now . If you google you might be able to find some afortable health plans . Just some thoughts and hope they can help you .

Di, I have no problem with people who don't have healthcare getting help. My problem is with those who have it going to emergency instead of to the doctor and then refusing to pay at the emergency room when they have the money.

I thought every state has a "well woman" program for those without health insurance. Ask at your local hospital.
