Some of you may have already heard this but Peter Benchley passed away. He was the creator of JAWS and many many other entertaining films. He will be missed by adventure movie goers.

I loved the Jaws movies. When my oldest daughter was a preteen, the first Jaws movie came out. She was so emotionally disturbed by the movie that she wouldn't sleep under the covers for a year!! She associated the covers with the ocean and thought Jaws would get her.

We vacationed in Hot Springs, Arkansas while Jaws was popular. Our room overlooked the pool. One evening while our daughter was enjoying the company of other children from Arkansas in the pool, we heard one of them shout, "Look out, Jowls is going to eat you!"

Remember...taking my first husband (Navy, at the time) to see this before he deployed overseas. [Big Grin]
Yes, I know...

Number5...that is so cute about the "Jowls".

Question for all of you...

Do you remember Spanky and Our Gang?

Spanky is alive and well....
Do any of you know who Spanky is???

Yepthatsme, George Mcfarland passed away in 1993 with a heart attack. He was Spanky wasn't he? Robert Blake played Mickey. He is still around. William Thomas(buckwheat) had a heart attack. Darla died with hepatitis. Chubby died due to an operation. Alfalfa was shot to death. And so on. I loved the shows and watch when I can find them.
Great memories but the gang has met with some untimely deaths.

Spanky hosted a couple of TV shows in Oklahoma as an adult and was well liked.

Joe Giles who played Corky on the Lil Rascals (Calling himself Jeffrey Giles at the time) directed one of my musicals.

He had moved from movies to directing the Folies Ber ger (sp) in Las Vegas and I think he was drying out at the time.

He was terrific. Worked for almost nothing and brought a ton of lights, costumes and equipment from Las Vegas for us to use all for free. Neat guy. He died some time later.

Peter Benchley made 4 Jaws movies all together and I've seen them all numerous times. 1 & 2 were best, 3 & 4 were not so hot. He also made a movie much earlier with Nick Nolte and Jacqueline Bissett about an electric eel also under the water thats when she made the wet T-shirt popular. But the name escapes me.....

Not many people know he made many serious movies for National Geographic to name a few;
Great White Shark in April 2000
Catch of the Day in April 2001
Cuba Reefs-A Last Caribbean Refuge in Feb.2002
Gifts From The Sea in August 2005
He was fascinated by the forms of life in the seas, mostly sharks and was an accomplished diver....

I hadn't heard about Peter Benchley. I'm sorry to hear of his death. Jaws kept me out of the water more than a few times. [Eek!]
I loved the Little Rascals too! don't know how they got caught up in this thread though! [Wink]
that's what I love about this place, you never know where the converstaion is going to lead! [Smile]
