I actually think they may have been at their peak, as the corn that hasn't been harvested has all turned brown, and we saw so MUCH color in the trees. Was worried we would not have much leaf color here this year, due to the drought, but while it has come on about a month early, and there ARE green leaves that are falling, the color has been delightful. We really enjoyed our trip. We moved here 10 years ago for the beauty of the area, so we know we're in a lovely place. It's the rare part of Illinois that isn't flat. Some farming, but mostly the area is supported by historical tourism. The colors are magnificent. If the temps would stay in the 60s, it'd be perfect. But they say it's gonna be cold this weekend. Temps to dip into the 30s tonight. It will warm up again, as you know. Some of the trees are still largely green with lustrous red 'n gold tips. Nature's beauty is soothing to the soul.
