Welcome, you should have posted in the fitness area also. I used to x-country ski, now snowshoe several times annually in the mountains. We live near ski hills, accessible by municipal bus only 40 minutes away. So we board the local ferry across the water with the snowboarders....and get there.

Any time a young person can experience snow sports in a good way, the better in the long run. There's nothing like lush thick snow, crisp, clean air, etc. ..and the person will develop 'ice' legs, capacity to walk all over the place in snow, slush and on ice. Useful life skill if you live in such climates...becomes important when you get older.
