I'm a grandma. I just found out this morning. My son has been waiting for the paternity test results to come back and he got the call this morning.

He had a very short relationship with a girl, who later got pregnant, but didn't tell my son that the baby was his until a month after the baby was born.

So, it's official. I'm a grandma. Wow.

Congratulations granny! Isn't it a great feeling? Will she let you be a part of the baby's life?

Well, so far she's letting my son be a hands-on dad. We'll sort the rest out as we go, I guess. I did go out and buy my son a "congratulations it's a boy" card and put a gift card in it to Toys R Us/Babies R Us.

He really is proud and happy to be a father. I'm glad he's taking this seriously and taking responsibility. He's getting his name put on the birth certificate as well. I've noticed a change in him over the last week or so while we waited for the results. Good changes. More settled down and being more cautious. He's even talking about selling his motorcycle and getting a safer vehicle. One that he can put a car seat in the back seat.

You never know what kind of decision your kids are going to make until they're faced with the situation. He could have walked away, but even before the test results were in he stepped up and took responsibility. He's been over to the girl's house every night after work helping with the baby.

One thing this has done, is made him think twice about joining the military. Now he's not so sure. He doesn't want to leave the baby.

So happy for you Grandma Vicki....Is his girlfried letting you be a part of the babies life. If it were me, I would make the first move, call the girl and ask to meet her and the little guy and take a nice baby gift and something nice for mother too, maybe a baby album, thats not too personal but is useful and considerate..

Happy for you all Vicki. I am only into grandmahood for 6 months so far but it is everything and more that all told me it would be! I agree, make the first move by letting the mom know you are thrilled and welcome them both into your life.

Vicki,
How wonderful! Name? Your gratitude at the Thanksgiving table will hold new meaning now, I'm sure. Congrats to all of you! How does your hubby feel about being a Pappaw?

Well, I can't go over to the girl's house because they live in Tucson, AZ and I'm all the way over here in Florida. But, we all have computers so I'm going to give the girl my e-mail address so she can send me pictures.

The baby's name is Dominik Patrick.

I found out today that they are going to share joint custody and she's letting the family get as involved as they want. She's even spending Thanksgiving with my son and his father and all the family over there. It's going to be a bit more difficult for me living so far away, but hey, families are spread all over the country now.

Thank you all for the congratulations, it's still sinking in. I've been a bit numb about it all, really.
