If you visit this site:

http://www.alexfoundation.org/

You'll find just how smart these birds really are. Alex is probably the most famous African Grey in the world (he's 27 years old) and can tell the difference in colors, his toys, etc. He's owned by a doctor who studies him and she believes that because they have the intellect of a five year old child, they can probably be taught how to read. Plus, they don't really just mimic, they can answer questions you ask of them. In a way, it's a little scary, isn't it? It's also a good argument for not killing animals or using them in labs. (I can't say that out loud or Sammie might get real nervous.) [Eek!]

I can shout it from the roof tops, and do, and have and always will:

ANIMALS IN LABORATORIES

UNSEEN THEY SUFFER
UNHEARD THEY CRY
IN ANGONY THEY LINGER
IN LONELINESS THEY DIE

I may ship Sammie off to a lab if she doesn't stop talking in my husband's voice! [Wink]

Oh boy, the more I hear about these wonderful birds the more I want one and am sorry I didn't keep the McCaw I fostered for a couple of weeks but the Priest from the Catholic Church had seen him and filled out the adoption papers. They have become vast friends to say the least and the bird says "Praise The Lord." I'm sure before Father Joseph is done that bird will be able to quote scripture.... [Razz]

My cousin has an African Grey named, Seth. I was at my cousin's house recently when my aunt passed away. Seth just stopped talking for days. They know. Isn't that strange? I think he was sad too.

And, my cousin's little dog ran under the bed and hid the moment my aunt passed. Amazing.

All these little creatures are far smarter and feel things much deeper than anyone can imagine. All too often their feelings are ignored. "Oh, there just animals," people say. I could tell you stories that would make you gasp with disbelief...I bet some of you already have some yourself. I know a few of you do. [Big Grin]

How sick is this????? I spent $140.00 at Petsmart today. Are my animals spoiled or what? Good grief, Louise!
