No one in my family can handle the aftertaste of artificial sugars.

I had high hopes for Splenda but it just tasted bad!!

I worked with a guy who was severely overweight and went on a crash diet (because of his heart) semi doctor supervised. Anyway he only drank fluids with artificial sweetners. His preference was Splenda. Ha had a horrible reaction after time. The build up in his system was making him toxic.

If you don't have to resort to artificals it probably is best to stick with the old timers sugar or try not using it in coffee and tea etc.

Has anyone tried "Stevia". It is actually an herb used as a sweetner. It doesn't seem to have the aftertaste.

Its funny but I agree that the small packets of Splenda have no after taste. I tried Stevia and its okay. If you don't know what your eating sugar wise you won't imagine any after taste. Most of it is in a persons head....Thats been my experience. Sugar is a lot more dangerous than some sweeteners. It is a matter of taste and mind set. [Razz]

I wonder if drinking diet soft drinks can build up toxicity in a persons system. I imagine so.

All forms of artificial sugar taste horrendous to me, even in teeny weeny doses. I don't have to know I'm taking it, like the first bite of those brownies. And the second bite -- when I still had no idea what was in them -- my mouth curdled, kind of like if I had eaten something very very spoiled. Some people just get those reactions.

I tried stevia once. I thought it tasted odd, but it didn't leave an aftertaste.

Sometimes in restaurants, the drinks get switched and hubby's diet drink doesn't get marked. So he gets me to taste-test both, and I can tell right away (by the terrible aftertaste) which one is the diet drink.
