It's actually raining here as I'm writing this. Great big fat drops of rain! In Tucson, when it rains, we get very excited! Of course, it won't last long, but there's nothing like the smell of the desert after a good rain.

Are you in Tucson? I went to the Tucson Gem show this past winter and hope to go again next winter. I have heard the flower/cacti bloom in the deserts after a rain are a beautiful sight to behold. I hope to see it someday.

Yes, the desert blooms are fantastic. Most cactus blooms only last one day and are something to see when they are in bloom, but the wildflowers in spring after we've had winter rains are just spectacular! I love the desert!!

I also love the desert and especially red rock. I hope to live out that way someday but for now enjoy my visits.

Val, if you're coming out for the Gem Show next year, let me know and we could maybe get together for lunch or something.

That would be great! I will definely try to do that. I will be out this Feb. but my plans are not finalized yet. My family will hopefully join me for a week in Sedona but the rest of the time I will be in Phoenix and will take a run up to Tucson.

I would love to see a saguaro again! How are you all managing with 100 weather? It was 13C here at daybreak and we expect an average high of 21C for the week. Last year was the hottest summer in London hitting mid-30's. Homes and majority of office buildings here are not suited to air conditioning so we swelter. Although they have now come up with portable air conditioners which can be rented for the summer. BTW, where you all are, can you see stars at night? We have atrocious light pollution in London and I miss them.

Lola, welcome to ur neighborhood. I thoroughly enjoy reading your psot. I love hearing your accent!

Hubby and I were in London in 1980. We were the typical tourists and loved every minute of it. We especially liked your pubs: so quaint and full of warm folks.

Do you still have family in Manhattan?

Hi, Val: When you look up pick one for me please and blow a wish for the children. All children.

Hi, Dotsie: My sister is in 66th & Madison and we still maintain Mom's flat in 59th South Central. Yes, the pubs are lovely and some brew their own ale. Friends from US who come to visit are shell shocked by warm beer though. They also sit and wait to be served. I let them find their way to the bar and they eventually do after 10 minutes (or so) when nothing happens. It's a giggle. All part of the joys of travelling!
