Oh yesss, I am learning so much by reading everyone's comments in this forum. It's nice to learn from everyone's own experiences. I am sure I will have lots to say once I do my first book signing. Still waiting on the release.....but orders are flying in! That's the exciting part!

Hi Theresa...ah! orders flying in! I love that part. I'll have to check other posts and see what you've been up to. I'm about to self-publish my first novel. I'm getting ideas from all over about publicity and marketing...with great ones from all of you gals. I found the book by M.J.Rose and A. Adair-Hoy, "How to Publish and Promote Online", also very helpful. So many ideas...so little time...what with a full-time practice as a psychologist (which I now refer to as my "day job"). Karen

Thanks for the websites. I have downloaded the information and will put together a game plan. I have to agree with what you said regarding book signings. I have a friend who's an author. He travels the states conducting book signings but he certainly isn't getting "rich". I think he does it because he enjoys traveling. He tells me there are times when he will only sell 10 books......and other times he will sell 100. Being we have to give back a percentage of our sales to the bookstores, I don't see how we can make any money. Rather....it's just getting our name out there.

I think with me.....more so than making a dime off of my book.....I am determined to help people out there who are living in abusive situations and feel entrapped. I want to spread my message that there IS a way to overcome this feeling. When I was going through it, I never thought there was a way out. In fact, my ex made it clear to me that I was "stuck". For some forsaken reason, I believed him. Now look at me........I have new wheels on my "car" and noone can stop me now! ha

Another great book (and well worth the investment) is "Guerilla Marketing for Writers." It is chock full of so much great information ... and more than just specific marketing ideas.

Teresa, contact women's studies at your local college or university and ask if you can speak or if they have anything planned for Oct. that you can participate in. ASU West has a great department with really nice women. Tell them I sent you.

Consider joining a speakers association. You'll learn a lot about speaking and promoting.

P.S. The shelter at Phoenix is great. I think Connie is still the director. The name slips me right now but she would be a good source. Again, tell her I sent you.
