Has anyone heard of this website?

http://AutographedByAuthor.com

I found this site and wrote an email inquiring about what they were about. I asked them some questions and they wrote me back yesterday.

They critiqued my website, told me that it was a "free" service and they do it for all authors who inquire. Frankly, I didn't realize I even asked them to do so.....but nevertheless, they claim they have customers looking for books that are personally autographed by the author.

They will send you the customers..... in return for sending them 10% of our sales (from customers they send).

Does this sound right? Have any of you ever signed up with them?

When he critiqued my website, he also told me I needed to change a few things "i.e. add a feature page, change my "ordering" page, give his customers something free (such as free postage as an incentive) etc".

He said that once I finish the changes to my website then he would consider me as one of his clients.

Shall I continue to listen? Or tell them to go pound sand? Ummmmm

Any advice?

Thanks!
Teresa

Hi speakermom....

I am the biggest skeptic when it comes to things like this. Especially when they are asking me to change several things on my website in order to "join". They bring me customers, but no guarantees as to "numbers".

I think I will put this on the back burner for now....and see what else is out there.

Thanks for your reply!

Yes, I think the setup fee is affordable. But the "issue" is this:

He critiques our websites (which is a plus, I suppose). Then he asks for several changes to be made on our websites BEFORE he will accept us as a customer.

In my opinion, the downfall to this is that most times, making significant changes to our websites costs money.

The question is, will the return on the number of customers he reels in......be worth the effort and money involved.

He wants 10% of our sales from customers he sends our way. Being a bookstore would receive more.....his request is very reasonable, I believe.

I asked him what kind of return we are looking at.....but he couldn't give me a direct answer. That's why I think it's important to know someone who is already signed up with them in order to give us a solid, truthful answer.

It may be worth it......and we all may have found a goldmine. But again, I am a skeptic.....working in criminal court has done wonders for my gut instinct. Yikes.

If any of you find out more information, I would love to hear about it!

Happy Saturday!

Teresa
