It has been suggested to me that I have my own website created. I currently have a page on Author's Den, which has sufficed me nicely thus far.

I am not really concerned about the cost of creating the website - it would be reasonable. But I DO NOT want to SELL books on the web - I would rather pass them thru to amazon or somesuch. And I am only mildly interested in doing a newsletter. (I've had newsletter writing dumped on my since 1972 and I think I am thoroughly sick of it). Plus the fact that tooting my own horn is not my favorite thing to do....

All this being said, I want my books to sell better via the internet.

Is this the way to go? Is it a good investment?

I need some imput!

Thanks.

Hi NJ Feather, I guess it depends on what genre your book is. Having a web site has been the best thing I could have done as far as promoting my book and my work. I used Authors Den for a couple of months, and did not think it was worth the investment, albeit small. As for my site, most of the book sales do go through Amazon and barnes and noble.com. I created my web site myself, which was difficult and aggravating and crazymaking. However, now that it's done, it's easy to change things as needed. I don't do a newsletter, but I do use blog pages to post my reviews of books that are on topics similar to mine. By the way, I was born in NJ, and lived there half time while growing up. Much of my story takes place in NJ. LLL

I can honestly say that having a web page done professionally was the best thing I've ever done (besides joining here). At least 80% of my books sales have been through my webpage. My newsletter has grown by leaps and bounds (All Things Royal) and people tell people. That's the best ad you can have...word of mouth. Marketing a book is a lot of work (but worth it!) and I've read over and over that you better be doing your homework the first 6 months your book comes out because after that, its all uphill. It goes back to the saying, "strike while the irons hot" or in our case, "while the books new."

You have to be like bird poop, everywhere!
