When you are asked to write a brief blurb about yourself to go with an article submission, how do you go about it? Let's say it's your first time having a submission chosen. You all remember that day? How did you handle it?

Oh yes...I do. I can whip out an article in about 30 minutes, but honey, ask me to do a blurp and I'll belabor it for 3 days...aye, ya ya!

Think about what you want your audience to know about you. Like:

1. How to find you (web address or email)
2. Your accomplishments
3. Maybe a vision you have OR something coming in the future? A book, for instance..(i.e., example, "Watch for Chickadee's upcoming book, "The Chicken Who Made It Across the Road."
4. Who you are...i.e., writer of mysteries...
5. Something personal, i.e., writer who lives in Southern Oklahoma...

Hope this helps...they are not in any particular order, just things I was mulling over. Just make sure the public knows WHAT you write, and how to find you.

Hugs, JJ

What do others blurbs in the magazine read like? Are they formal, listing accomplishments and contact info only? Humorous? Rambling/ informal? Specifically pertaining to the scope of your article? ("Chickadee raises Rhode Island Reds, most of which never move more than 5' from their feeding area...") Take your cue from what others in the publication do.

I have about 3 different blurbs, which I update as needed.

JJ and Meredith. I don't have the magazine to go by as it will appear in either the first or second issue, depending on space. The first issue is scheduled to come out in September, possibly sooner. I did come up with something from reading your posts. Thank You for your help.

ask the editor if the blurb should be a certain word count. If there isn't one, submit 3 short paragraphs with all the above info, and end with "Please feel free to edit as necessary."

A small blurb could be three sentences. You may need to ask for clarification. If so, simply ask one question. (Can you please clarify what you mean by a blurb?) Don't go on and on. Editors don't have the time.

Feel free to post it here and we can help.
