I seem to be in a writing slump right now...my books have not arrived from the publisher and the momentum is gone. I am doubting my ability and just don't know what I want to do. I guess I just need to tell someone how I feel and get it out of my system. I have asked God to show me in some way that writing is really wants me to do.

Sorry, just a little down today.

Sherri

Sherri, been there, done that and designed the t-shirt.

Having self-doubt is common, especially after having finished a project and trying to start a new one.

I went through the same thing about 3 weeks ago. What I did was gag that self doubt and look forward to my next project. I started small, first just reviewing my notes. Then thinking about how I was going to start the book, then I started the first chapter, and before I knew it, I was writing again.

Sometimes it helps to review past accomplishments. See how much you've done. That helps for me as well.

I hope you're feeling better!

Hi Sherri....well I know and understand how you feel....writing is kind of one of those roller coaster rides - we just LOVE those highs and HATE those lows. When your books arrive and you see them and hold them you will be back "up"... meanwhile, focus on how proud you should feel that you have come this far and done what you have done. Some people never realize their dream of being published and YOU have! Hang in there - the highs will be back...you can count on it. [Wink]
In the meantime here's a cyberhug - }}BIG HUG{{ - sometimes you just need a HUG!!!!!!

Sherri gal...

Although my book is in the process of being published and I don't have it in my hot little hands yet, I can relate because the project itself is complete. It's done. Over.

After the first week, I kinda sat there and stared into space...it's like an Elvis concert...you go, and when it's over, you say, "now what?" Hard to top it, isn't it?

Do you also think that coming back from first a trip to Las Vegas, then a trip to Germany, and the delay of your book arrivals, and then wham!...back to work and reality had anything to do with the low you're experiencing?

One thing I did after I submitted my book to the publisher was to read some things I had been putting off. I've read about 6 books in the last month. No joke.

Also, I started promoting myself out to the cyberworld and in doing so, pick up another humor column.

I guess what I am saying is don't let yourself get into the routine of sitting around wondering and worrying...READ! PROMOTE! START A NEW PROJECT! Just make yourself move and do something. Hey, relaxing counts too! You've earned it.

Another hug--JJ

Sherri, hi girlfriend. Listen to all the inelligent advice given here. When I attended the writing school they told us to expect that VOID after a project was complete but not to get lazy so to speak, "its the old pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again." And when you hold that book for the first time ALL THAT EXCITEMENT returns in spades... [Big Grin]
