If you... or anyone you've ever known... has ever successfully sold work to a greeting card company, HELP!

I really want to try my hand at greeting cards and I'm hoping some of you ladies may have some advice, resources, etc. to throw at me.

I sure do appreciate this!

I have several suggestions. One would be to gather all of the info you can on writing for greeting card companies. It's easy to use the internet for this research. You can start by reading this rather lengthy "how-to" article at

http://www.howtoadvice.com/GreetingCards

It's old, but has some good advice in it. If you simply do a query on goggle like "how to write for greeting card companies" or something of that nature, you'll be surprised how many good sources you'll find. Here's another good source for ah...sources...ahah..

http://www.writerswrite.com/journal/feb98/gak4.htm

Another piece of advice would be to find a listing of greeting card companies, get their guidelines, study them, and know the company BEFORE you submit anything. They will throw your submissions in the trash in a heartbeat if you do not follow their guidelines!!!!

Lastly, but equally important, keep a good record of who you submit to, and WHAT you submit. You can do this by using simple 3x5 index cards or a spreadsheet on the computer. No big deal unless you are trying to remember...then it becomes a BIG deal...especially if you have a brain like mine...

Here is one more place that provides a listing of links to different greeting card companies where you can find their guidelines. Some of them may be old and no longer accessible, but I'll let you try them. I'm too lazy to check them all...

I would say the most important thing about doing this is....IF YOU ARE SERIOUS about writing for these people, then take some time and do your homework. It will pay in the long run. Heck, it will pay in the short run!

Hope this helps,

JJ

Fingers, legs and eyes crossed?

Isn't that the Southern Baptist form of birth control?

The links have been very helpful.

Have any of you submitted to Blue Mountain? I submitted one..... only one. Now I only have to sit and wait for the rejection letter. Woo-Hoo!
